Folding@Home News - Attention Single-Machine Crunchers

most Dells I've used don't like being run at full whack anyway - I would doubt they'd have sufficient cooling to deal with any extra heat on top of that :o

all the ones where I work sound like jets taking off if they get stuck in a loop waiting for some other archaic piece of kit to do something :p
all the dells we've got at work are dimension 5150's, all with silent heatsinks on the graphics cards and silent CPU heatsinks too.
they have one 120mm fan on the front which is pretty quiet considering its not an enthusiast fan.

although under constant full load my machine is a bit louder than normal :o

I run FAH on 3 PCs 2 are DC and one is an SC ( Opteron 144 )

Does that count, or not cos I am also running DC too?

FWIW running FAH on any of my PCs takes absolutely ZERO time from the PC.

Obviously FAH takes up 100% of CPU time thats doing nothing, thats not what I mean... I mean, that running things like Benches etc even on my lowly K6/2 500 gives the same results whether FAH is running or not!

For those who are not getting this, then their systems are not running right surely?

FatRakoon - it's working perfectly, you explained it yourself. It's priority (check task manager) is set to idle. So it only does stuff when the cpu isn't busy. It uses any spare cycles. So when you're benching, it's letting the benchy take up all the cpu.

Real-life slacker as well apparently... :p

Edit: take it back - news has arrived
you knows it :p

annoyingly I only realised just after 19:30ish, I was planning on doing the news an hour earlier to fit with the clocks going back - had to divide the week's output by 7 x 169/168 to get the 24hr average correct :p

just to ask, if someone was to get a quad core cpu, would you accept 4 clients as a single machine if proof was provided of the 4 cores? thinking about getting a quad core early next year..

Thanks.

Don't see why not - one PC after all, isn't it. Doesn't Concorde have that many on 'one' ;) machine at the moment?
