Folding@Home News - Attention Single-Machine Crunchers

Don't see why not - one PC after all, isn't it. Doesn't Concorde have that many on 'one' ;) machine at the moment?
I wouldn't have a problem believing it was a single machine, it's only Conc who seems to have a problem keeping his CPU count at something suitable :p

However the single-machines list was started to give people with lower outputs a chance to compete with eachother rather than seeing their name stuck down the bottom of a long list every week (or not at all in most cases).
We've slowly been losing people from the single-machine crunchers list due to not producing anything for 5 weeks (I'd assume that means they've quit) so I don't think it's now serving the purpose it was created for. :o

Maybe we should just give it a change of name and some extra colours for 2-way, 4-way, GPU assisted etc and turn it fully into the uber-high production from something contained in a single case and be done with it :p
I'm up for whatever the majority want from the news post

yeh that does sound a good idea, single, then dual&quad and an extra colour for GPU assisted
Spot on.

Could extend the GPU colour thing to the main list if it's not too much of a problem. Make it a nice "ATI Red" as well

Since Folding only actually uses up one core, it should not matter as such whether they are running on a single, dual, quad, or any other Multi-cored CPU or GPU should it?

Not if they are only running it on the one core anyway.

Or have I missed something???

But they will run more than one instance of F@H. So you have one instance for each core of the CPU, with options for other instances if you have a GPU.

In fact F@H specifically allows in its configuration for up to 8 different identities on one PC. Simply create more than one folder (directory) on the PC with the F@H client, run the client from each folder with the -configonly option, just the once and in advanced options select different IDs for each instance from 1-8. Full instructions in the F@H sticky.

Granted, a F@H client only uses a single core, but we're not talking a single client here. Quad cores can take 4, for example.

Yes, yes, but the original post did say ATTENTION SINGLE MACHINE USERS.

Hang on... Single machine and not single cores... Yes, I see what you mean now.

I myself use a couple of machines... a Conroe and an X2-3800, both are dual core and both are running 2 FAH Clients too, plus my Opty which is a single and thats also running one FAH client.

Erm, hang on, thats 3!!!

You have no idea how tempting it is to use this PC for a week or two, so im no longer single machine. Then turn it off and ask to swapped back :p
lol - I think the technical term for that is "Doing a Tross" :p

I'm happy to make whatever changes people want from week to week - I just need to be told and preferably in this thread so I don't have to hunt around each week :)

If I have this on for just a week, I doubt it would even complete a WU anyway :p

Thats right...

WU = Work Units

Keep an eye on the file called UNITINFO.TXT in your FAH folder, as this will show you the on-going progress of your current WU, or maybe use a program like FAHMON to keep an eye on your current progress.

I'd like to be included in the single machine stats, running a conroe e6600. Thanks
Excellent :D
