An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

A well deserverd BUMP :) :) :)

With the expansion pack out now called nights of the nine i was just wondering has anyone got it yet and have you finished it :)

Ive started the game all over again today im a female high elf mage and she rocks with the fire spell im only level 1 still just gotta find a bed. Im in the middle of nowhere happily going from cave to cave killing goblins :)

yes and yes. I resurrected an old character to play through. Interesting but not overwhelming. I'd advise the cheaper download when it finally happens if you already have the other DLCs rather than paying £20 (or whatever) to get it now. The prizes are pretty good though and someone has discovered Sets....

Aint played oblivion on the pc for ages, what mods etc to i need to make it look as good as possible, theres a lot of pages to look through here.
I've just started playing again and I had a long list of decent mods that made the game a lot better in my opinion. I've now got OOO (oscuro's oblivion overhaul - I think) which apparently does a lot for the game, but now all my original mods conflict with it :(. Going to give it a try for a bit and see what it's like, if it's no good I'll go back to my mods :), which are:

Short Grass V2
Potion Sorter
Darker Dungeons
Darker Nights
Bounty Reduction Over Time
Brighter Torches
Deadlier Sneaking
Deadlier Traps
No More Annoying Messages
Natural Water by Max Tael
Natural Weather by Max Tael
Natural Environments
No physic guards harder
No Obsolete Loot and Enemies
Rare Items v1.18
Time 2x
BT Mod v2.20
LOD Land texture patch

Got Knights of the Nine yesterday, content seems pretty good so far, even more for us to do :)

Don't know how many people have become vampires. It's the one quest line that I've got no interest in. For those that did it, how did you find the difference it made to your game?

maybe if you read the readme files for most of the mods you'ed see that they have details of how to install

maybe you should RTFM

and cut back on the

The modular oblivion enchancer mod I downloaded and want to use has a readme but it says nothing of installing it or where to place it

Got anymore smart ideas?

Just got this today - how do I install mods?

most mods you just need to put in the oblivion DATA folder. it will have a file extension .esp (i think!!! im not at home at the moment to check)

OBLIVION/DATA

If it has extra stuff like sound and textures then they will go in the various folders within the DATA folder.

After youve done that. start oblivion and click on DATA FILES in the startup bit. It will list any mods you have which you can select/unselect to load into oblivion.

ohhh btw important tip for anyone wanting to edit their INI file to tweak settings. You dont change the default one in the main oblivion install area. You change the INI file under your user settings folder. (click on my documents or my settings i think)

sorted! Any mods I "need" to get the best out of the game?

I see tons of "Oblivion threads" and people are still starting new ones, so i am using this thread for my question...

PERFORMANCE ?

I am playing on default settings at 1024x768 (native res for me)

and i am outside now, lowest fps i get is 12, highest is about 60

spec :

Oblivion patched to 1.1
DFI Lanparty UT Ultra-D
HIS Radeon X1950 PRO 256Mb
Geil 2Gb RAM (running in DDR 333 mode?)
A64 3000+ Venice @ stock (1.8)

what are other people getting? post your specs please :)

Have a look at optimising the grass as that can be a killer, there is a mod you can install that is called low poly grass from www.tessource.net

Also have a search for a ini setting the lowers the grass density, I think it is iMingrass_size or something like that the higher you set it the less grass is visible.

Also disable tree conapy shadows, self shadows and shadow filtering for a boost in performance but lleave HDR on as it looks so much better IMO

With my 7800GT I had to do those tweaks to get decent performance at 1280*1024 4xAF with my current 8800GTS I can set everything to max with 4xAA/16AF and HDR on and still get better performance than my 7800GT

a pretty darn good mod, Bartholm 3.4 (46.3mb):
http://worlds.fortinbras.net/oblivion/oblivion.html
-Fight in the Arena and become Bartholm's Grand Champ
-Fight in daily free for all matches and defend your title once a week as Bartholm's Grand Champ.
-Go hunting with Filthy Fargus.
-Assist Eranyon with Bartholm's ghost story.
-Uncover a plot against the Count for Primo Victrix.
-Igor offers Dark Brotherhood member's a contract.
-Help Grok gro-Hammer solve Bartholm's skooma problem.
-Find a bottle of Rockville Rum for Loranil.
-Resolve Ayne Drehl's unwanted house guest issue.
-Rent a room at the Lodge.
-Purchase a house in town from the Count and furnish it.
-Cause havok around town and get arrested or killed by the guards.

The town contains:
35+ NPC's
15 Buildings
700+ voice files
10 quests

i got it loaded after ooo and there is a single conflict, although i don't think it's fatal for ooo. the arena grand champ perks are much better and other than the voices it's feels close to original content.
