An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

Just started playing the game as I've just upgraded. I think the fast travel is a immersion spoiler and am doing my best to ignore it but it's hard

The fact that you can transport in an instant to places you've not even visited before seems lame. A sop to the consol crowd maybe? Perhaps I'll look for a mod that disables it. Much preferred the silt slider transport system and the mark and recall spells of Morrowind.

This game is destroying my sleep pattern..... I sometimes use the fast transport if I've already made the journey there by foot (so I don't miss stuff... I can't help myself when I find dungeons - must go on phat lewt raids!).

Absolutely amazing game, can't recommend it enough.

Gonna have to try some of these mods that everyone's raving about though!

Which mod stops the blocky distant texturing? looks really pants as standard and reminds me of black and white :S

I use kaptnkills lod texture replacement pack does me fine.

Theres loads. I think Qarls is looking good at the moment though as he just releaed a Compressed 4096 Normal map retexture so you dont need a LOD replacemtent. Apparently a 4096 uncompressed Map retexture is also going to be released but that I think that would require a video card with a gig of RAM.

Oh I'd read a lot about it and wouldn't even start without mods. Same with Morrowind...thought it was poor as the vanilla version.

Also have a question, theres a few people here with like Bloom + AA enabled, running on similar system specs to me, and managing 1680 X 1050, How the hell do you guys do it?

Im only managing, full settings, 2AA 8AS at 1440 x 900, crank AA up to 4X or try the next res and im f00ked.

Walking along the small bushes on the ground seem to reak havoc with my card when I have anthing higher than 2AA :confused:

, anyone else having this problem?

Its so bad my system just slows down to a crawl, running at like 3/5 FPS

A good idea is to go somewhere like Planet Elder Scrolls and check out the most popular downloads. When you see that something like the BTmod has 80,000 downloads it's a fair indicator that it's worth checking out.

Disable all shadows, lower the grass slider to 50% and get a mod called LowPolyGrass.

Bootup05 that looks terrible tbh. Heres a screenshot of mine, I have the same graphics card as you, 1gb ram and maxed settings with HDR and a texture mod, don't get any lag:

www.tessource.net is where i get most of mine. i've been reg'd there since the game came out and have not have any spam from them. not sure if you still have to reg to download from there or not??

Ive just started my 4th character due to stupid hard drive problems but thats in the past now.

My new character is a high elf wizard shes called shiva and she kicks ass

Ive just finished this really hard quest where your in a dream world and got to complete these mini challenges, it was fun but hard.

Im currently just finished a mages guild mission where i had to shoot this pillar with different kinds of magic then i took the helmet back to some bloke in the academy. How far have i got to go until ive completed the mages guild quest. I aint touched the main quest only just to get the horse so theres still no oblivion gates about which makes me happy

Hum I think I have a bug in the Unfair Competition quest where I follow the guy and he stands around doing nothing.. the other chap doesn't turn up.

Odd :S

Will download some mods later methinks. The saddle bags one looks awesome.

where's he standing about? i don't want to spoil it, but if he stand about all night or goes home to bed without the meeting taking place then there could well be a bug. keep following him though.

It was ok first time I tried but I got an itchy mouse finger and accidentally killed an NPC so reloaded a previous save game - haven't been able to get it to work since :S

He's standing on a path behind a bush on his own, where the other guy turned up the first time... Odd.

try fast traveling to another IC district and back..

else, as a last resort, drop the console (` key) and type:

save Agarmirbkup

that'll make a new save file just as it's a good habit to have when giving a quest a nudge, then type:

player.setStage ms29 40

if you don't get a waypoint to Agarmir, locate his house in Talos Plaza and while outside, at the console type:

player.setStage ms29 50

if the door is not locked then Agarmir "should" be inside, if so leg it back out and wait for him to leave. then search the house.. that should get the quest back on track.

You're not standing close enough. The two characters will not detect you even though the game shows that someone has detected you on the sneak meter. Just move in closer until the conversation starts.
