ah sorry. i should read posts more thoroughly.... :p

i used to run my x800pro on vista beta2 with old ati beta2 drivers and the ccc was fully functional.... howabout ati tray tools? might be worth giving those ago. failing that i don't know - remember the drivers are still beta (even though they are labelled RTM :().

I've been running Vista since November with the Beta drivers for my old 800XL. And its gone well. Until I installed this X1950.

Just tried messing around with the dual screen option and you were right. It worked. Thanks. Guess I will have to wait till more mature drivers are out for Vista and this 1950Pro.

EDIT: Just like to know if its needed that I install my motherboard drivers on system. Vista seemed to have picked up all the components and even the lan connection so should I do it or leave it as it is?

Just installed the HIS, seems to be a very nice and is a little bit faster then the Power Colour card. I didn't even uninstall the CATs, just powered down, swapped cards, booted into windows, plug'n'played, rebooted, done!

here are a few before and after benches, system is loose (still being built) but it was loose for both of the tests so the only thing thats changed is the card . . . bear in mind these are at 1024x768 res, normal defaults.

Power Colour= 5633

HIS= 5811

The HIS package is very swish, games, software, dongles etc but the fan is 'niggling' me atm, its very quiet (although I think the Power Colour one was quieter) but this HIS fan is making a small 'rattle' sound, I may just be being picky so I'll leave it running for a bit. . . but if deffo coming from the fan, if I apply a little pressure to the fan the sound goes away, but after a while 'rattle rattle' hmmm . . . .

[edit] I have no idea what the actual clocks for 'this' HIS card are, will grab ATI Tools in a bit and check.

Nice one Big wayne :) My current Sapphire "only" clocks at 5400 3d marks in 06. But I bought the HIS mainly because it's silent, my sapphire certainly isn't. I'll do some Sapphire VS HIS when I receive it.

Oh - why did you buy a HIS wayne, as the powercolour is silent is it not?!!

I bought the HIS version because the Power-Colour wouldn't fit into the [HTPC] cases I have, the cooler is so tall I couldn't put the top cover back on!!

I just installed ATI Tray Tools, never used it before but its looks pretty handy, its got all kinda options!

Here is a screenie of how it sees the HIS card:

hisx1950proyk5.jpg

So thats 635MHz/GPU and 1486MHz/DDR out the box not bad! (I read that in a few of the reviews, wonder why they say 620MHz?).

The 'rattling' in the fan hasn't gone away . . . You probably wouldn't notice it in a normal system but these ones I'm working on are meant to be as quiet as poss . . . eeeee I'm hard to please sometimes! ;)

I've also read that they always leave the factory over the quoted 620mhz. Bonus I say :D Just ran 3D mark 06 with mine at standard 580/700mhz timings and got a poor 4958  It was 5200 before so god knows what's happening there. But the HIS can only be an improvement!

just oc'ed my powercolour x1950 pro 512mb and found performance decrease? well at stock (595/1395) SM2: 2004 HDR/SM3:2163

I then oc'ed to 614/1490 and got: SM2: 1975 HDR/SM3: 2156

I know they are still close but should I see some rise in these scores?

Strange you should say that-My Sapphire has the same issue?

Presume a setting needs changing?

Another quick question folks, anyone have any suggestions re: cleaning the old Nvidia drivers off my system when I install the new card?

Normally, I'd just uninstall the old card & drivers, but I've heard quite a bit about using Driver Cleaner Pro when working with vid card drivers. Would anyone recommend I use it?

FK

i just uninstalled it normally, but I have been having a few problems but dont think they are related to nividia drivers. to be safe I would use driver cleaner but thats just imo

Instead of starting a new thread, i thought i best post it in here :)

Installation procedues?

Do I need to Install Hydra Vision etc? on the HIS installation disk it installs lots of stuff, do i need it all?

if we have a link to the ones we need, then i'll just install those, rather than lots of lots of drivers.programs we don't really need.

Im doing a fresh install soon, so i want to gather ever i need to install onto a CD ready :)

cheers

Mine went from 5000 upto 8033 in 06 when I added another x1950 pro, but BF2 and NFS carbon run better with 1 card :( not sure if upgrading was the best solution, maybe I should have sold mine on Ebay and got a new 7950 from OCUK ;)

Just an update guys, did a fresh installed and my Catalyst drivers work well on this AGP X1950Pro. All the drivers function well but I can't submit any 3DMARK Score now. Don't know why. Disable firewall and all the other usual stuff.

i know that can happen but im sure there is a way round things like these, i know quite often driver updates sort these sort of problems out so may have to wait for next set. but would deffinatly search the net for solutions to things like this.

For most users the simplest method of getting your new card set-up in Windows would be to download and install the latest Catalyst® 'Software Suite'. This contains the latest drivers for your card and includes the 'Catalyst® Control Centre' (C.C.C), which is a small app that gives u access to certain advanced features like AA/AF, Overdrive etc.

Catalyst® 'Software Suite' for Windows XP
Single download containing the latest drivers and the 'Control Centre' (34.6MB)
Note: Catalyst® 'Control Centre' needs Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed (22.4MB).

If you are not a fan of C.C.C or Microsoft.NET but still want access to all the functions of your card thats not a problem, simply download & install the Display Driver (12.2MB) and the WDM Integrated Driver (3.9MB) and your good to go.

As there is no way to adjust any 'advanced' graphic settings using just the display driver
you will probably want to download and install ATI Tray Tools for some major 'tweakage'!
