Will give it a go then:-

My temps are 31 degrees at idle , so touch wood should be able to do ok?

(I have the Antec "Ultimate gaming case" which seems to help somewhat)

621 Core and 789 Ram is the ATI figures - but backed down to 600C and 763M to be ultra careful.

I had heard some people were crashing when raising by even the tiniest of margins?

Regarding the listed specs of the HIS x1950 Pro 256MB I ordered yesterday...

When viewing all the x1950s on the OC shop front, the HIS card appears the fastest of the 256 Pros with a clock of 620Mhz, and memory clock of 1480. When looking at the detailed specs of the card, however, it seems the actual clock speed is lower than that - and the above quoted figures are for the card in 'Turbo' Mode.

Now, I'm not remotely bothered about a few Mhz here and there; and don't imagine I'd notice a difference between stock and 'turbo'. But I am curious as to what setting you guys would suggest I run the card at when I get it.

HI there

It should default at its TURBO speeds and if it does not then just set it do so as the cards are guaranteed to run at those speeds without issues. :)

It's 'Turbo' Edition, i.e: all the cards in this range are pre-overclocked.

Many review samples of the HIS X1950 Pro Turbo have had their core clocked at 635MHz!

That's a good question. I think you still need some kinda 'Crossfire' support from the mobo . . . I'm not familiar with the '590'.

As far as I know the X1950 Pro features 'Crossfire2' meaning their is no master/slave thing anymore.

Its not clear whether or not you are saying 'Crossfire' mobo like what ATI make or a 'Crossfire' Capable motherboard like the P965/P975X?

[edit] I'm hoping to test Crossfire using a P965 (P5B-Deluxe-Wifi).

Well the ASUS P5W DH is 975x and is crossfire capable not made by ATI.

Just like may others.

Thought you said the second x1950 pro was for a second system? ;) :D
Its not the second, its the fourth, and yes its for a second system . . . Still gonna try them both togther, never had any hands on experience of SLI or crossfire . . :)

Dont forget to post results.

It will be interesting to see how much slower the x1950's are in xfire than a single GTS.

Considering the small difference in cost.

Hi,

What nvidia card would compare to one of these x1950 pros - i.e. price or performance?

Are they better than 7900s/7950s?

Please not trying to start an ati vs nvidia war just curious?!

Cheers
