Fuel up/down again

I will continue to drive my 1987 Fiesta with its nice high emissions killing trees as i drive past, knowing in the long run i produce less of a footprint than the muppet in his eco box.

That's o.k, your quite content to drive your old car around, nothing wrong with that, I also drive an 1980's camper van around doing 28mpg
I'm driving a hybrid because it saves me money and not because I'm a tree hugger, which you seem to imply, zero road tax and average of 64mpg shouldn't be sniffed at :o

What other reason would I want to drive a prius besides being cheap to run and service?
Well for starters it's the smoothest most comfortable vehicle out of the 23 I've ever owned, it's single gear transmission will rapidly go from zero to max without any noticeable 'steps' and is very capable of leaving most cars behind from a standing start due to the instant torque of it's 600 volt 3phase motor. I've lost count of how many boy racers I've left embarrassed after they attempted to race the 'muppet milk float'
I enjoy 9 speaker stereo with voice activation for satnav, climate control, radio etc. I can drive along and press the steering wheel button and say 'I'm hungry' and the satnav will instantly show me all the nearest fast food outlets, McDonalds etc. If I want to be arsed I can make the car reverse park itself without touching the steering wheel into a selected parking space viewed in the rear view camera.
all in all a very enjoyable car much admired by my 22 year old son and his mates who all had the wrong impression of hybrids due to listening to the likes of Clarkson etc. Like it or not It's the way forward until fully electric cars can can have swop out battery packs enroute

Put £86 in the Scorpio last night then took the Lexus to fill up as well - £102. Scorpio is currently averaging 19mpg and the Lexus 17mpg.

Then took the Westfiled to fill up - £39 and 38mpg!

You know what? Still don't care about petrol prices - still worth it for all three cars.

I had a rental van and managed to overshoot by 2p despite trying to be careful :o

No, as I always fill the car up.

How can it save you money, what ever the cost surely just using that money to fuel your other is cheaper, less insurance as well.

It will take me many years to spend thousands on petrol for my fiesta which does about 32mpg, cheaper to insure my xr2 than a prius as well.

Does it really?

I thought the answer was obvious, I pay no road tax, excellent mpg, low insurance, very low maintenance costs, (brakes pads can last 70,000 miles

You mean drive my camper van as my sole vehicle? Well obviously if I did that I wouldn't have to pay insurance etc. for a second vehicle but it's not just about saving money, it's about the enjoyment of driving a vehicle and the camper van is hard work compared to modern cars and it won't fit under the crossbar in the majority of car parks either. I've had more than my share of old bangers so prefer a bit of comfort now :p

So discounting that you ask how can my Prius save me money? It has excellent mpg compared to any comparable size petrol/diesel automatic available,

Basically I've chosen a medium sized 5 seater car with an amazing level of equipment for less money than the average BMW that so many of you aspire to own given the choice.

April fools already?

What else have you owned, mostly sit on lawnmowers i take it?

What cars have you raced?

The Prius is a slow poorly built plasticy hunk of junk, why you would want to own one to save £200 a year in tax is beyond me.

What were they racing you with? Their BMXs?

A Toyota Prius is not "very capable of leaving most cars behind".

Some rather illogical replies here surely, your suggesting that he shouldn't buy a car because he's already got an old campervan and therefore should use that as a means to save money
you could apply that argument to households with two cars, one for him and one for her and getting rid of one car would save heaps of money but as already pointed out it's not just about saving money is it?

Let me guess, you have read that somewhere?

I can guarantee you have not driven a series 3 Prius, or you would not have stated that. The initial instant torque of a 650volt 3phase motor combined with the 1800cc engine will throw you back in your seat and you will be pulling way ahead whilst the rest of the pack are still going thru the gears. Will some of them pass me further up the road? absolutely they will :p

Not only will 80% of the traffic pass you up the road they will also leave you dead from a standing start, it does 0-60 in what 10 seconds, WOW.

From the way he describes it, it sounds like a Veyron or something? I can't imagine what car 23 cars he has driven in the past that make him think that a Toyota Prius "throws you back in your seat"?

Maybe he's previously owned 23 Peel P50's?
