Fuel up/down again

Wasn't expecting mock sympathy/sarcasm lads, par for the course these days ey.

What do you expect when you come into a thread where people are facing £1.40 a litre fuel to have a little cry about how your low mileage commute is affected by fuel thats 40p a litre cheaper?

We don't need the extra tax revenue?

Why not just put the income tax rate up to 80% then? Country needs the money.

Do you have any idea what high fuel prices do to an economy? For every $10 increase in a barrel of oil, it knocks up to 0.5% off the growth of the US economy, for example.

Also it has a knock on effect on the price of essentials such as milk and bread.

Did anyone see the 10 O clock show with Malfoy from Harry Potter campaigning for a 0.005% tax to be applied to all bank transactions. This would raise £20bn.

Of course Alan Sugar was on the 'panel' and questioned him on the idea, he like it but wanted to know why he wasnt going 'after' BP and Shell as the fuel prices and profits keep going up. Malfoy gimp boy just agreed with him.

He in reality he could have replied with stating that 50p per litre is cheap for fuel, the rest is tax, so by raising £20bn taxing banks you could lower the tax on fuel and that would do far more to aid economic recovery. Chance to pwn Sugar and he missed it :p

A more adult response? Considering im not joining this discussion with a "haha my petrol is cheaper" viewpoint, but from a "jesus it's climbing at a rate which is making me think" one, which i'd wager lots of you do. Thought I alluded to that in the 2 posts I made, but i'll confirm it again here if needs be.

Anyways crack on, i'll stay out of it.

The logistics and feasibility about how the extra money should be rased is not really something i think about, clearly the burden should be distributed in such a way that limits impact to the economic growth that we need. We do indeed need the money, be it from tax rises across the board or continuing to cut waste.

If you can lower tax as an incentive to get people spending then you might end up with a net increase in tax revenue. Do we know if the drop to 15% VAT had that sort of effect?

I would be interested to know the revenue generate by the humble tax disc? Any ideas?

How would you react to abolishment of the tax disc but the taxation being applied to fuel instead?

It seems a fairer method and dare I say it, "greener". I currently am doing high mileage in a single vehicle. My monthly fuel spend is around £600 at 130-135ppl of diesel so I'd imagine it would cost me more. But if I had a car for pleasure use then it could be more attractive.

The government would also save a lot of money on administering the paper disc system.

Very sad state of affairs :(

I'm eaking every last bit of Diesel out I can - I think I have roughly 6-7 litres left as the light hasn't come on yet but I will probably go on a blend of svo/wvo/biodiesel and diesel the way the prices seem to be going.

Firstly I need to do some small scale testing though, and purchase a heat-exchanger and/or heated fuel filter and some filters. A bit of hassle and an initial outlay, but could potentially save hundreds a year for me - and provided I don't go over the 2,499 litre/year threshold, I won't have to pay duty.

Anyone else thought about going onto alternative fuels on their Diesels?

I think you can get done under the anti terror laws that came in to protect us from the likes of the Taliban...or at least that was my understanding from when the strikes were proposed a few years ago, I am sure somebody will clarify.

This is correct but I think it only is if you block a refinary, not a forecourt.
