Fuel up/down again

You won't change any of their opinions unfortunately, I had their view also simply because of some of the stuff on the internet.

You keep saying this and i can only think you've convinced yourself that anyone who says a word against a Toyota Prius is wrong.

it's come to the point now where you have to decide whether you drive 'cool wheels' to impress your mates or whether you drive something to suit your pocket or whatever.

You realise a Toyota Prius isn't the only economical car in the world right?

Comparing diesels with the Prius doesn't take into account that it's an automatic and if anyone has an medium sized auto diesel that can beat the Prius I'd be very surprised.

In what way? MPG?

I've never doubted the Prius' ability to achieve a high MPG, what i'm laughing at though is the fact that "Izzy eckerslike" seems to think he owns a Bugatti Veyron that does 65mpg.

Why would I want to sit in traffic with the engine sounding like a box of loose spanners when I can have complete silence? Why would I want to pay more per litre ( watch it rise to 15p more than petrol again)

I don't know why you'd want either really, but i can only assume that diesel owners like the power they get over a Prius, especially at 70mph+.

Oh wait! new technology means diesels are a lot quieter now but even newer technology that uses batteries to boost the engine is a complete no no and yet all the manufacturers are falling over themselves to develop plug in hybrids that you will all eventually be driving. You can take the p*** all you like but I know I've made the right decision :p

You seem to be missing the point entirely, so i'll spell it out. No one has doubted the Prius' MPG.

I was laughed at you desperately trying to convince us that it went like **** off a shovel, and i don't need to drive one to know that it won't leave 80% of cars "way behind". Because it just....won't. Others said that the Prius' was a pointless car from an emissions point of view, because whilst it might get good MPG and give out a small amount of CO2, the building of it uses a lot more CO2.

You still haven't answer, what 23 cars did you own before the Prius that make you think it's some kind of rocketship?

A glimmer of hope against the anti hybrid brigade, someone actually knows what they are talking about for once :p

Oh, and you'll note that he still referred to the Prius as a "slow car"". He also said the mid range is pretty impressive. Pretty impressive for a 1.5 litre car and a fast car are two different things.

You have a Prius, its great for MPG, might be good to drive and it's certainly good at making you feel like your saving the world.

But that's all. I should think that hasn't embarrassed anyone else. Apart from people on push bikes, but then they get better MPG than you so they have that to be smug about.

EDIT: Apologies, 1.8l.

Unlikely to happen just yet, it has been 5-8ppl difference on the market since November, this is the usual seasonal demand for heating oil.

Last time in '08 you had higher demand for diesel globally, with the recession there is not so much demand. Diesel more recently is 6-7ppl higher than unleaded, normally starts to come down around spring time.

The issue currently is that a lot of stations have kept diesel a bit lower than market rate and kept unleaded a little higher, make 5ppl on unl and 1ppl on Diesel for example.. however with oil prices pushing higher that unl at 129.9 to keep diesel at 133.p no longer works. expect 129.9 and 135.9 to be more common as stations reflect the true market difference.

To be fair the OP does have the 1.8 and its a 1.8 with what is essentially an electric supercharger able to be held at peak torque rpm. The point you are correctly highlighting is of course that its all relative :)

Id be interested to see your source for that. Also real pollutants and urban air quality is the ignored issue.

Gen3 Prius will only save you money if its a company car still :D

I don't have a source/can't be bothered to find one because i didn't make the original point ;) I was just trying to show that no one has doubted the Prius' MPG :)

Indeed! Some of us aren't lucky enough to have a company car though ;)

Thats cos you wont find one ;)

Ok i could be a little bit bothered. As i said, i didn't never made the original point :)

However i did find this:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/3174258/Toyota-Prius-green-winner-or-loser.html

I'm not suggesting it supports the point that someone else made about the CO2 emissions being high for producing/disposing of the materials used to make the Prius, but it's interesting that Toyota won't release the data despite requests to do so. Make of it what you will!

can only laugh at this guy with the prius thinking its fast, its a 10 second to 60 car, it can have all the torque in the world but its still a slow car, my 1.7tdi izuzu engined van with a free remap we did ourselves does 0-60 in 12 seconds and still does 62mpg over the whole tank driven sensibly, and its an old high mileage van... im sure more modern diesels will do a whole lot better.

Im sure the prius is as good as most diesels and yes better than some and will be quicker than some very slow cars, but its not a quick car, never will be!

so anyways.... yesterday i posted that petrol went upto $3.15 well today it went upto $3.22. Did something happen that i missed ? Two days ago it was $3.07.

My wishful 20 mpg ( Motorway ) Jeep Liberty is getting expensive to fill up now.

Yup - the colleague of mine from whom I borrowed the Prius says that he actually makes about £20 a month from his fuel expenses! Not bad being paid to own a company car!! haha!

Thats not really a huge amount, I'd imagine almost everyone makes money from fuel expenses - nobody will make exactly £0.00 and in theory you shouldnt be worse off so..

I don't. Because I used my car at weekends and go abroad with it etc... So I still pay out of my pocket for the use of the car. :) Also, bear in mind I get 15p a mile, and with the current price of fuel I need to achieve over 40mpg to break even - which I do easily. On driving expenses alone I make £5 a month, but if you subtract the personal mileage I do, I don't. He, after including his personal mileage still makes £20 a month. :)

Does that make sense?

It sort of does but I don't think its really comparable. Does he go abroad with it? If not for you to still make £5 a month even with foreign trips means it's very similar to the Prius surely..

No no I meant I make £5 a month purely on work mileage. That doesn't include personal mileage. i.e. when I fill in my expenses form, I can work out the mileage I've done and the amount I've spent on fuel and purely for my work mileage I actually make £5 a month on average. Some months I make more, some I make less, depends on how much motorway/town driving I do. :) If I include the few hundred miles I do out of work then I can break even or sometimes spend a little on fuel (still, ends up being very little I spend on fuel).

Whereas he's done the same but includes his personal mileage (I don't know if he's been abroad but he still does about 25k miles a year) and his total cost fuel for his car is -£20 a month.

Sorry I'm exhausted - so probably not making much sense! :o
