Mountain Biking

Surprise surprise!!

http://www.pinkbike.com/news/atherton-trek-racing-2015.html

The rumor mill went into overdrive when the Athertons and GT announced a parting of ways earlier this week, but it has now been confirmed as to what machines we'll see Gee, Dan, and Rachel on in 2016 and beyond: all three will be riding and racing on Trek bikes. The Athertons have signed a three-year contract with Trek as the title sponsor while they retain ownership of the license and management of the team. The outfit's name will be Trek Factory Racing (it was called Trek World Racing in the past), and it will also include young gun Taylor Vernon, the junior who raced under the GT banner with the Athertons over the past few seasons.

Thinking of maybe 34 with 11-42. It seems to me, if I'm reading it correctly, that it'll give more or less the same ratio's as a 11-36x32T setup I run currently, just a slightly higher top speed.

Or is this defeating the point of going for a 11-42 cassette? No idea!!!

Hmm, i had a 34t 11-36 on my canyon. On my new kona its 32t 11-42. Its nice having the extra easy gear on long rides + bit of a heavier bike so probably need it. I dunno i could probably go 36t front and be fine but it depends how fit you are and how far you ride i guess, however im more than happy with my current setup so i say 32t :D

I've not had time to get out on the bike for months now, so I've done the sensible thing and decided to buy a brand new bike :D

Have treated myself to a Commencal Meta AM, should hopefully arrive next week. Time to embrace 650b and all that jazz. Have booked a day in at Bike Park Wales to run it in, will be my first time there too.

Just means saying bye to my trust Bandit :( if I can find a buyer, what with it's prehistoric wheel size and all.

Do you feel that you need the extra pedaling speed / resistance at higher speeds though?

Don't get me wrong, i'm no wippet but sometimes I do find myself spinning in top gear. Once was doing 35mph towards a land driver mind you.. true story!

I'm on a 30/11-40, i'd much rather have extra gear options for the climbs, i've never had issues getting speed, cant say i've ever felt the need to have a faster gear, if ive got to the point of spinning out, generally gravity takes over.

Not at all no, never had that problem.. only on the main roads getting to a trail maybe but who cares about that :D

In the last 2 days i have bought three FSR frames :)
1999 Stumpjumper FSR XC (front and seat stay only)
2001 S-works FSR M4 (full bare frame and linkages)
98-00 FSR XC Stumpjumper Comp (full frame, shock and linkages)
Decided to buy up some parts whilst they are still available and going to build up another 17 inch frame for the mrs.
Winter projects :D

I have a Scott Scale 760 hardtail and I have suffered from dropped chains a few times which is always a bit concerning when you try to turn the pedals and it is jammed! It is a 3x10 setup on it so I guess it has a long cage derailleur. Now my rear derailleur is not clutched, would getting a Deore M615 (£28) or SLX M675 (£33) sort my issue out or am I better to use some sort of chain catcher? If so I guess there isn't much between the Deore and SLX level?

Looking for some advice peeps, I am looking to find a set of longer travel forks, 100mm+ , but want to buy second hand, retro if possible (up to about 2005 latest). General trail riding use, some jumps and a little but if DH now and again.
Budget is under £100, and want air rather than oil/coil.
Is it worth looking retro, or is there something similarly priced and new that would outperform the older forks?
To be used on my 98 FSR which currently has 2015 rockshox XC 28s. Moving these to my Mrs ' FSR XC that I am building. I also just bought a set of suntour raidon RL for my own FSR s works m4 that i am building too.

I am totally lost on what shocks are what going back over the years and searching for details of each for at certain years is making my head hurt!

When are you dropping chains? A clutch mech will help. But if it's on climbs, then there's probably something else at fault.

ordered a flash charger before i throw the bloomin things down the garden :D

Good choice!

How old and how many miles has the transmission done?
