I'd forgotten how utterly awesome sci-fi can be.

I've always loved my sci-fi ever since i watched the original Star Trek re-runs (i'm not THAT old!).
I can never get enough, Star Trek (any series), Stargate, 4400, etc, etc, but this last few weeks i've had a reminder of how high the bar was set.

I got my hands on the complete run of Babylon 5, omfg it rocks.

I've got a couple of weeks down time between jobs so i've been kicking the arse out of it and i'm already finishing the 3rd season. Just need a few more hours in the day and i'll be happy :D

Yep, Babylon 5 is ace.

It starts of slow and a bit disjointed but really starts to heat up over season 2 and 3 and season 4 is fantastic. Season 5 was pretty good but not as good as the previous ones. I reckon it has some of the best and varied sci-fi ship designs as well (although Farscape had pretty good ships).

Ah, another convert to the cause! :)

Welcome to the ranks of the enlightened, young padawan!:p Be joyful in the knowledge that you've experienced the peak of what sci-fi tv has to offer, and shed a tear at the foreknowledge that no other series will ever be able to give you the same high again! I used to love Star Trek when I was a teenager, after seeing Bab5 though I just can't watch it anymore, it seems shallow and puerile. :( My standards for plot and characters have risen so drastically because of Bab5 that I can't really enjoy any sci-fi series anymore...

Absolutely awesome series. Prepare for obsession, addiction, withdrawal, and despair! :D

Do yourself a favour and DON'T watch Crusade though, it'll just disappoint you. Did you get the tv-movies as well with that boxed set?

Watch the new Battlestar Galactica. It is better than anything else, ever.

Including original Star Wars. Yes.

I think its a great show but with the exception of Baltar and Six (who are excellent by the way) I find it hard to care about the characters very much.

BURN THE HERETIC!!! BURN HIM!! BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURN!!!!!:eek::mad:

BSG was a good series (it's gone downhill), but Bab5 is so.... much.... MORE!

TV movies? Didn't know there were any, i remember renting the videos when they were releasing them with 2 episodes per tape.

Best (worst?) memory of B5 is that i'd been working nights for months, then having a weekend off and tuning in to see what i'd missed out on. The episode i saw was "Sleeping In Light". Devestating to watch without warning. :(

Babylon 5 is still one of the best, if not the best Sci-Fi series i've ever watched.

Partly I think due to the fact the general story was largely written down before the first episode ever got shot (so much less of the "omg we need a filler episode for next week") stuff that afflicts so much TV that is made up as it goes along (X-File, Lost), and partly the quality of the actors and the fact that some (many?) of the main ones really did get into their parts.
It's too rare for any sci-fi, especially ones where the main characters are under layers of make up to have characters that aren't just "good" or "bad", and really do have some depths to their personality (Andreas Katsulas as G'Kar was supurb, and I think really got into his role) - even though the likes of BSG try they haven't really managed it with more than a couple of characters (whilst B5 managed it with virtually all the reoccurring characters).

The quality dipped in parts of the forth/fifth season due to the problems with the studios, but even the weakest season was still on a par with the best of any other sci-fi series i've seen.

I love B5, I watched the new movie they released a while ago. Voices in the dark its called. It was pretty good and I believe theyre going to make more movies. :)

Such a shame that Dr Franklin (Richard Biggs), Zathras (Tim Choate) and G'kar (Andreas Katsulas) are no longer with us. :(

Aye Sliders was good, I can't remember if I ever saw the end of the series though? Did the story line get tied up and Quinn returned to his own dimension? I seem to remember BBC stopped showing part way through a season or something like that.
Early Quantum Leap was interesting too.

-Edit
CANT ******* BELIEVE I forgot Red Dwarf. Loved that show.

DONT SWEAR

B5 + Quantum Leap = Nothing else ever needed (except Red Dwarf :p) :)

BTW B5 Boxset is 'cheap' if you know where to look - wish I could afford it...

ps3ud0

Love sci-fi, one of the best series i ever saw was Dark skies but all the muppets where frothing at the mouth for Gillian Anderson...i mean X-files so it tanked.

Really enjoying Flash Gordon atm, quality action.

Not sure how it ends, I've only seen up to the first few eps of season 5 (the last season).

It started going downhill when the original cast members began leaving, first the Professor and Wade, and then Quinn left after season 4. By the time season 5 started, only Rembrandt was left from the original lot and I lost interest.

Gonna have to watch the lot sometime, along with Babylon5, which I've only ever seen 1 episode of. The local library has both series on dvd to rent. :)
