but before you suggest a car, it has to be a family sized car. And im talking mondeo sized, not focus sized.

the ST200 is about 7 secs, so doesnt make the cut.

used '03 Impreza STI makes the cut if bought privately

Obviously we're also talking Evo 7/8 Territory as well.

but anything else this fast for this cheap ?

im struggling to think of anything else.

for 15k id be looking at two scenarios.. a comfortable fast car.. and a track weapon...

15k might just about get you a VXT... or it could get you something like an M3...

what does 0-60 matter anyway?

Obviously the AWD cars will have lower 0-60 times than the RWD and FWD cars. Doesnt mean they're quicker on the roll.

Why the interest in 0-60? Pub talk? :p

My old Scoob would do it in 4.8 seconds, but after 60mph it wasn't exactly living the dream. 1/4 terminal was only around 95/96 mph, pants.

Ignore 0-60, just find a car that can give you a terminal speed of over 100mph and then you've got a quick car.

And yes - the M5 will float your boat, proper monster. It'll also make you poor, but all quick cars do that.

I thought the subaru sti was something like 5.4 seconds. 0-60 so that still doesn't make the cut surely?

The Sti requires 3rd gear to do 60mph, so it suffers a little.

im using the 0-60 as a yardstick for what sort of performance im after. as already stated the STI is 5.something or other. So im not fussed as to exactly what time.

M5 might be worth a look, but arent they money pits when old ?

and arent most M3s coupe's. i deffo need 4 doors.

all E46 M3's are coupes IIRC. it was the E36 which had a 4 door option.

plus my M5 is quite a lot bigger inside than my friends E46 M3.

M5's are expensive enough to run when new! petrol is quite interesting :(
otherwise a well maintained one should be fine, will just need to be a bit more careful with £15k budget as thats the cheaper end of the market.

running 2 cars is out of the question

ill have a hard enough time paying for servicing insurance and running costs on something fast without having to pay for another car on top

scoobys aint cheap to run either

how would you compare the costs of the two ?

tbh i very rarely get or want the chance to go above 60 except on motorways. And on motorways i just cruise at 80 so i dont really need the performance there. Id just like to be able to have a bit of fun round the twisties whilst still being within the limit. Plus having the power to win a few traffic light grand prix's of course ;)

havent had a scooby, but its a lot more than my 200sx was. but then i assume that 200's are cheaper than scoobies. (so not really helpful!)

petrol wise i get 13-15mpg in london traffic. on the run to nurburgring i managed 20mpg, thats cruising around 80-110 dependant on traffic and a couple of limiter tests a long the way. setting the cruise to a steady 80 should see 25mpg.

on the nurburgring itself i think i was seeing 6mpg from memory

It's quite hard to have fun in a scoob without breaking the law. The levels of grip are just so immense you need to be pushing hard to get a big grin factor.

You'd be much better off with a smaller engined RWD car like an mx5 if you really want fun on the back roads sub 60. Ok I know ya need a saloon but the scoob has too much power and traction for what you claim you are after.
