0-60 in 5 secs and 15,00 what car ?

M5 is a great car, would deffo take that over the M3 if it was for a family...

However, they BOTH demand great respect if driven hard! and lots of replacement rear tyres...

:D

At the risk of sounding biased - and yes I am ;)

An Impreza would probably make a good all round choice. If you have a family then you want something reliable and jokes and bad feeling aside if looked after an Impreza will last for ages - My 4 year old daughter spots them a mile off and knows which version is which - very sad I know. Also if you have a family you might find an EVO a little too harsh.

As for BMWs, I like them but they don't really have much character IMHO although M5s are obviously an excellent car. I haven't grown up yet and I see BMW and Audi as grown up cars.

How are you fixed for servicing and insurance costs? Whatever you buy with those conditions isn't going to be cheap but I get 30+ mpg out of my Impreza (albiet the older version).

If you don't want to jump on the Japanese rollercoaster, what about Audi? £15K should get a very nice RS2? Might be a bit old but a 360+ estate with Porsche goodies. Once I feel I have grown up I will be heading to Audi for one of thier fast estates - RS4 will be my choice.

It can be less than this mate, trust me ;)

Stu

Yes it is less than that but unfortunately it's nowhere near 5 seconds.

Not an awful lot is beyond the usual tuned Impreza etc - certainly nothing that will be suitable for MrLOL becuase I remember when he bought his Picasso he told us he absolutely needed the space and flexibility of a Mini MPV, and they don't do those that do 0-60 in 5 seconds.

Presumably you want a family car beause you have a family

And with that being the case perhaps you should consider an ordinary car in which your less likely to get the impulse to do something silly and put them in danger...

I carry my one year old daughter around in my car quite often.

Nothing on this earth could tempt me into putting my foot down with her in onboard.

Vauxhall Zafira VXR or the older GSi

OK, so it wont do 60 in 5 seconds, but it does tick all the boxes as far as family and practicality go. It also has a bit of get up and go when you want it.

Thats the only boxes it ticks though! It's just a Zafira - a family bus, a van with windows with an Astra interior, that is reasonably quick, 0-60 just under 8 seconds. I don't think it's going to tempt somebody who wants 0-60 in 5 seconds - he's after a SERIOUSLY quick car.

I've got a picasso atm, as its great for carting around all the stuff that toddlers need. Pushchairs, nappys, wipes, pottys, umpteen clothes changes etc.. Im on about changing in a year or two, by which time hell have outgrown all those thiings and i wont need as much space.

i drive to and from work everyday by myself. Im perfectly capable of restraing myself with my family in the car. How i drive to work and how i drive with family on-board are completely different

as above, im changing the car when i wont need to cart all the baby stuff round. Any parent will tell you that modern pushchair (especially comfy ones) take up a huge ammount of room.

You'd be much better off with a smaller engined RWD car like an mx5 if you really want fun on the back roads sub 60. Ok I know ya need a saloon but the scoob has too much power and traction for what you claim you are after.

needs to be 4 door family sized car. Mx5 etc.. are totally out of the question as im going to struggle to afford anything decent, let alone 2 cars.

Toyota Soarer 2.5 TT - Just got mine for £2k. 0-60 in 5.8 seconds, delimited they'll do 170 mph and they have large rear seats. Basically a 4 seater Supra.

You could get an Audi S4 Avant ;) Might not be 5secs 0-60 (i think it's nearer 6) but it would be cool :D

If you look at S4's (Avant or even the saloon - though why you'd buy the saloon i don't know!), then you'll get a ~2000, ~50k example for £12-£15k.

Just about to suggest Audi S4 but beaten to it :) Easy chip to add another 40hp and 50lb ft to bring it over 300hp, capable of big miles, just make sure you get one that has a full service history and someone who knows what they are on about to look at them. - Check various Audi forums (www.RS246.com etc) for things to look for. I think things like turbo failure mean engine out and 2 turbos replacing - in which case uprate the injectors and stick bigger KO4 on instead... it's a slippery slope when you get to around 400hp around that stage and then want more... :S

Get the estate, take the badges off and wipe the smile off the face off unsuspecting scooby drivers :) As mentioned the scoob is quick off the line but even my (chipped) diesel will keep up with a 225hp version. 265hp (STI?) I can't quite stay with but 300hp (STI+ppp) pulls away from me though :( Still they get less than my 27mpg when their foot is on the floor :)

I miss my old audi but don't miss the sub 10mpg when thrashing it :S

For 15k I would get a 330d or 530d, get it chipped. 0-60 is great for chatting in the pub with, 400+ lb ft is better for real world driving.

These 4 wheel drive cars take "the launch" into account, so unless you launch it hard its not so quick. In real life, they wont match up to the 0-60 time.
Im not saying they are slow, just bear in mind you might have 2 cars that'll reach 60 in the same time but one is actually a lot quicker when accelerating from rolling starts.

just a few off the top of my head :)

Audi RS2 4.8s
Audi S4 5.3s
BMW 540i Sport 6sd 5.4s
BMW M3 Evo 5.2s
BMW M5 4.7s
BMW 850CSi 5.8s
Holden HSV GTS 5.1s
Lexus GS 400 5.8s
Lotus Carlton 5.1s
Maserati Quattroporte V8 Evo 5.7s
Mercedes-Benz C36 (97) 5.9s
Mercedes-Benz C43 5.8s
Mercedes benz CLK55 AMG 4.8s
Mercedes Benz C32 AMG 5.1s
Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG 5.0s
Nissan skyline GTR 5.1s
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 5.0s
Subaru Impreza WRX STi 5.1s
Vauxhall Monaro 5.7 V8 5.7s

amg's would be hard to find under 15k but they do go for less sometimes. but I'd say there out of your budget in most cases.

Lotus Carlton, Audi RS2, M5, Holden HSV would be my top picks! :)
