For my use case, (4K/90fps VR sim racing) the GPU itself is the weakest link.
I'm stuck at medium-ish settings and less than 7gb vram allocation.
That's because you are an EXTREME use case scenario. For 99% of PC gamers a 3080 or 6800 XT is MORE than good enough.
No..
"Bottom line is that if you game at 4k and want to max most or all settings, then 10GB is not enough. V-RAM gets eaten up like it's nothing at high resolution with max settings. And thanks to the 450w BIOS for the FTW3, you can stay over 60 FPS in most games and are limited only by the 10GB's of V-RAM."

Guy in that thread is talking nonsense, 4K is an extremely demanding resolution and GTA V settings can be turned up beyond what current cards are capable of regardless of their VRAM. He didn't bother providing any proof of his claims nor exactly what settings he used so how can we be sure he did his due diligence?
If I turn up settings so everything is at max except frame scaling off, MSAA at 4X, Reflection MSAA at 4X at 2160p then I cannot even stay above 60fps in the grassy sections of the benchmark. If I head out to the hills near vinewood sign then fps drops into the 30s while using 5.6GB VRAM. Ultra grass.![]()
4k resolution = bad draw distance and rendering.... still in 2021
kinda sucks that we still have this issue with the latest graphics cards. you would think that the game developers would add in a slider that lets the draw distance be added at a longer distance.
I'm playing A C Valhalla maxed out at 4k and its driving me nuts that when I am moving around all the plants and trees and everything in front of me is being draw before my eyes.....
If Games like MF sim 2021 can solve the issue then so can other new titles. maybe its just be me because 4k is so sharp and I play on 55" screen I notice everything.
I was simply reminding people that vram is not the only thing limiting settings in games.
Much of this discussion seems to forget that GPU horsepower (or the lack thereof) can and will limit what settings can be used in games.
In fact, it has been THE reason I had to turn down settings with every GPU I have ever owned.
Sure, a 10gb buffer makes vram more likely to force lowered settings than in the past, but I don't think it moves to the top of the list....I still think GPU horsepower is still most likely to hold back the card. (And I have already experienced it with the 3080)
Good example is the rtx3060 due out soon with 12gb memory and a very real world lack of horsepower.
It probably only has 12GB to help take sales away from the Radeon 6700xt and 6600xt if they come out with 12GB as the media suggest.
Can't you figure this out yourself? It's because 6GB is no longer perceived as adequate and AMD are providing 12GB on their mid-range cards. Why not just stay with 6GB and reduce the price.
Who going be starting a new "12GB vram enough for 3060? Discuss.." ThreadGood example is the rtx3060 due out soon with 12gb memory and a very real world lack of horsepower.
It wouldnt work sadly as it’s not a flagship product.Who going be starting a new "12GB vram enough for 3060? Discuss.." Thread![]()

It probably doesn't need it, but COD Black Ops Cold War uses 21GB of my 3090's 24GB VRAM.![]()
Allocates, not uses.
