I've been working on updating the circle chart, currently on V3.0 @gpuerrilla, as I think it's clear we have three scenarios now not just two and we have some new entries and new members to the discussion.

Scenario
3080 owner/forum user asks for an example where 10gb is not enough:
  • Example provided. (Far Cry 6 4K/Max Settings with HD Texture pack).
  • 3080 owners debate provided example.
  • Provided example validated by tech press, game developer and actual 3080 owners in the discussion and externally.
Once we've reached this stage, one of three things can occur; acceptance, deflection or denial.
  • Acceptance
    • I accept there is a scenario where the 3080 will choke and run out of VRAM before grunt due to:
      • Owners confirm FPS collapses down to single digits/Low FPS.
      • Owners confirm bad frame times/stuttering.
      • Owners confirm the issue is resolved by disabling the HD Texture Pack.
      • Owners confirm the issue is resolved by using FSR.
      • Owners confirm the issue is resolved using 1440P or lower resolutions.
      • Owners confirm the issue is resolved by switching to a GPU with 12GB or higher of video memory.
  • Deflection
    • Owners ignore the asked for and provided example and deflect to something that is not relevant to the ask:
      • I don't play the provided example at the resolution and settings required, so I've not got any issue.
      • I've never experienced an issue at 1080P/1440P, if anything I've possibly got too much VRAM and could make do with 8GB.
      • I use image reconstruction so I'm actually running at 720P/1080P and never seen an issue at this level of fidelity.
      • I just lower image quality settings in things unrelated to the asked for example, based on that I have always run out of grunt before memory.
      • But most users have no issue and Nvidia sold more 3080s than RDAN2.
      • But every other game out there is perfectly fine at 4K maximum settings.
  • Denial
    • I don't believe the Tech Press, 3080 owners or the game developers and here's why:
      • It's a local system issue as the game runs fine for me at 4K maximum settings. However, I only want to show you a two minute video recording. What's that? No, i won't record a long gameplay video from the start of the game for an hour as I know the FPS/frame times will tank before I can safely end the recording.
      • Provided example does not count as game is buggy/poor IMO.
      • Tech press examples not valid for [insert reasons]. Different tech site did not see any issue in their 30 second benchmark run.
      • This does not matter because a different game unrelated to the asked for example can run at 4K max settings and use less than 8GB.
      • I found a user with a 3090/6900 XT who has stuttering, in my expert opinion (as a specialist in this field) it's a game issue and the developers will fix it one day.
The cycle will start over when one or more of the following happens again:
  • A new owner/user enters the discussion to ask for an example where 10GB is not enough. (we all dread this day because the charade starts over again ).
  • There is a new game released that may require more than 10GB of video memory at 4K maximum settings.
  • A owner posts that he has also experienced symptoms related to VRAM saturation with his 3080.
  • Thread settles down, but a user from the acceptance/deflection/denial category posts an inflammatory comment to awaken the thread.
@Perfect_Chaos, please could you append the circle chart to the OP for visibility? :D
And spoil the fun, i mean discussion? :p

How much more hashrate you get from a 3090 over a 3080? Same as perf uplift? 20%. SO 20% extra hashrate at twice the price...............

SO you took longer to payback your investment eating into you profits.

At least he got to play FC6 with the optional texture pack enabled though. That’s got to count for something?

If you could reference the original 'ask' that would be grand. As I thought I saw the ask was without anomalies. Which the FC6 example is a specific set of parameters. As even that obscure German site you referenced showed all other results as quite glowing for the 3080. If it was techpress findings, how come all the english first language sites didn't bother with it?

Trying to identify that the card is the issue, from a game that was released with HAlflife 2 textures (evident in lots of release reviews) then claim the HD texture pack was an upgrade, rather than a fix, was laughable. But that's marketing to cover up the release fail.

FC6 looks no different to FC5 bar RT. FC5 had an HD texture pack also. Runs fine at same 4k settings, though RT cant be applied.

If FC6 had Crysis levels of visual upgrade over other games at the time I could see the argument. But it doesn't unfortunately.

If all games running at 4k ran into an issue, then I could accept the argument. But you cant use one example as an issue with the card. Evidence points more towards the game.

If it was an issue all techpress would have highlighted this issue, but they saw it for what it was. An anomoly. Owners could reproduce this and an actual owner of the card has now evidenced that this has since been fixed and no longer causes an issue?

Sites need clicks for revenue, posting something controversial creates more clicks JAys2cents is a master of this as was Ryan Shrout at PCPer. Having to referenced a German site instead of the plethora of english first language sites, further weakens the argument. One result, one site doesn't make it global techpress findings.

I can find lots of sites that say the earth is flat and airliners are spraying chemicals. FInd one in English as the first language that shows your results. One site vs ALL the others makes it techpress findings? Did you do science at school or just lick crayons?

Post up that original ask as I'm sure it requested not to include anomolies. Plus do some basics around data anylysis or staistical analysis so you can learn why one result, different from all the others in the distribution of the other findings, highlights your one result as an anomoly. It's basic stuff.

At least he got to play FC6 with the optional texture pack enabled though. That’s got to count for something?

You can play that texture pack by turning stuff down, like 4k owners have been doing for eons on all prior cards when it comes to running 4k. Goal posts now are having everything at max. Only people who dont know what all the graphical options are to fettle to get best IQ vs fps will move the goal posts.

8k is next.

The hilarity in using one result, under one set of parameters, in one game, from one website just evidences the glaringly obvious to anyone, who did maths and science at school, and who licked the ends of crayons in art.

Your another that seems to have some weird agenda. You and Joxeon in your infinite knowledge forget you couldn't get multiple 3080's the FE's were the hardest to secure for months. Retailer locked one per account shortly after launch.

If you buy multiple cards, your also stopping another person getting chance to own a card. You cannot use SLI on 3080's and being triple slot good luck to having multiple in one standard PC case - right @Purgatory ?

I dont need to explain anything other than, why you think anyone would be bitter about owning a GPU and not paying overall for it? It blows out of the water any aggression/nonsense about "you paid more than me ner ner".

All it remains is some bitter folk trying to stir **** as you have proven. Stay angry with your purchase! I am not £649+ out of pocket.. still mining.   Again add nothing to the thread apart from pure rocksalt.

Seems to me like the majority are picking up on the angry chap with an axe to grind now @TNA :D Not being able to get the card he wanted all along really must have rustled his jimmies

But I think a few are starting to pick up that you're coming across as very bitter going by your posts in recent threads lately (more so than usual) and as a result, your posts are starting to come across as even more silly now, which are even less to what have been some good discussions happening at long last.

I know it's a bitter pill to swallow but move on if you can't add anything worthwhile to a discussion without coming across like you have a grudge, I imagine a couple will start reporting posts if it keeps up.

Whilst I agree with general sentiment of your post

Troubles within the inner knitting circle #drama

@LtMatt @TNA Can any of you add to the list:

Moonhowling/Raging at any tier>10Gb

It’s just a few owners now defending their purchase, patting each other on the back, and showing signs of jealousy that some folks choose a higher tier GPU with their disposable income. Appreciate you, Bill and Geaard taking the time to put this one to bed though, otherwise we’d have never got closure.

Don't see how my reply got you, seeing me having a weird agenda, aggression/nonsense. bitter, stir ***, sounds like you've got upset and triggered. When I've merely stated facts. Sounds more like self projection.

I just replied with some facts regarding mining. 20% better hash-rate at twice the price, mining rigs don't use SLI. Why would miners buy 3090's when they could get 80% hashrate at half the price? After all wasn't that the reason there were no 3080's?

Dude, go get yourself an ice lolly as the heat has you obviously very hot under the collar. HArd to stay cool in this heat eh?

Nothing to do with 3080 owners saying 3090 owners are angry, though you are obviously feeling it. Just 3080 owners having their say to counter argue those that are getting angry. I cant see why the two biggest posting non owners keep going on, massive posts pushing their agenda. Hilarious.

Owners are just coming back with counter arguments - which is clearly triggering your like. I'd have bought a dang 3090 if I didn't get a 3080. But I wouldn't have been calling the 3080 invalid for gaming over one result at 4k in one game.

You'll lose all your anger when you hear the ice cream van coming round your estate soon, has to be something exciting for you today.

Can't beleive YOU accused others of stirring and adding nothing to the thread after being called out for it so many times yourself. Hilarious! Made my friday.

Says the guy who bumped the thread after it was inactive for over a month to stir **** up?

This is a fact. But I am sure I won’t get a like for it from your tribe members :p
From the dude with the highest post count in a thread ever.

Yourself and Nexus have more than a 1000 forgiving posts in a 6300 post thread.:p
