130mph web video biker is jailed

The speed limit is just too low. Most cars can do 70MPH in 3rd FFS! All UK motorways and dual carriageways should be derestricted IMHO, or at least lift the limit to something like 150MPH.

Why not go with the 186mph voluntary limit the Jap bike firms agreed to many years ago ? Granted even they strayed over 200mph in reality but it sounded like they were saving children right ?

I'd be happy if we could actually do 70mph most of the time, let alone go faster.

Agreed, again, I see nothing bad happening in Germany on motorways.

Avoid the roads between 6 and 10 am, and between 3 and 8 pm.

I think the punishment is fitting. The biker was glorifying reckless driving through his videos and the judge chose to make an example of him. It sends out a clear message to others who may consider basking in the glory of ego massaging youtube and forum comments by filming their idiotic antics on the public road.

To those who claim 130mph on a public road is not fast, are you really stupid enough to believe what you are saying? It's a ridiculous speed. A bike may be able to stop very quickly but reaction times are not instant. At 130mph, if a car pulled into the road 50-100m in front of the bike, the biker would be dead before he even grabbed the brake lever. It might be "easy" for the motorbike to accelerate to 130mph and stop but there's a fat lump of human controlling it and it is undeniable that very, very few humans can safely operate a motorcycle at 130mph on public roads. Especially on the back wheel whilst waving to the camera and focusing your mind on how cool the internet is going to think you are.

He may not have injured or hurt anyone this time but if he was allowed to continue, who knows? The potential to kill another innocent road user is very high.

Can't accept the time? Don't do the crime.

..... i guess 'fast' can only be measured by where the speed is being done. Going 130 down your local highsteet is 'fast' and dangerous, going 130 down a empty road with no turnings / dangers is actually quite slow imo.

Modern bikes handle very well all the way up to crazy speeds.. it's what they were designed to do.

Wheelies get safer the faster you go ;)

Jail is a ridiculous punishment for a victimless crime. There is no denying the guy is infact a weapons grade plonker and he should be punished. A significant fine and a 12-18 month driving ban would do the trick.

But lock him up? With people who murder others?

Ridiculous, frankly.

I quite agree. Its ok to make an example of him, but putting him inside is crazy, people are always whinging that there is not enough space in prisons and some punishments are being watered down... well, if people like this werent sentenced to some time inside it might help!

He is clearly an idiot for what he did, and 130mph is very fast on a public road, so what if it can accelerate there quickly? If a slower bike or car accelerated up to 130mph slower would that somehow make it more dangerous  ? It seems to be stupid logic to say bikes are somehow safe going at 130mph because they reach that speed faster, LOL.

However I don't think he should have gone to prison, ban him and make him pay a fine or something but sending him to prison is just a waste of everyones time and money.

I've done more than 130 on my R6 (on a private airstrip... ;) ) but only when there are no turns or others around in view, at least 400m infront. I feel just as safe as when i'm doing 70-80 with traffic around me, sometimes safer tbh so IMO as long as that was the case then i see nothing that justifies prison unless there were others around that could be harmed.

Do all you bikers think "it will never happen to me" seems like you think you are untouchable from the law and the grim reaper.

No more or less than car drivers i'd imagine. How many car drivers have had a prang and thought it'd never happen to them, until it did.

I ride and drive, it makes no difference to how fast I go merely how quickly I get to that speed, unless it's 160+* and clearly my choice of four wheeled transport wouldn't manage that no matter how long a runway it had.

*Just to make it clear to the speed Nazi's I used the word runway in the correct sense, i'm talking about Elvington and straight liners events :)

My thoughts exactly, especially when people who commit crimes that actually do have victims get less time in prison.

The guy is clearly an idiot, but the jail time is just absurd

I don't see the problem in doing 130, I do however see the problem in doing it on the back wheel down a busy street; How the hell could you stop quickly (which any modern sports bike can do) when you're braking force is 2 foot off the ground?

I got caught doing 2x the speed limit, and I got a 3 week ban, going down a dual carriage way, with an antiquated 40mph speed limit. The road which has no foot paths and not a single person on said road.

Do you think I should have gone to jail/had my license revoked? Or is it a solid case of "You broke the law, so yes you should have?"

I find that the whole "OMG you're a law breaker, pure eeevil, execute them" on this forum is pure stupidity, when in fact I doubt that anyone here has never broken a law, even by accident.

The boy was a tool.

1) Look at me speeding aren't I great
2) This is where I live
3) Here is my National Insurance Number
4) If that fails call me on this number

Muppet.

You cannot compare this case to any normal speeding case. I suspect had the rider in question just been caught at 130mph or drivng dangerously in general without any of the camera footage, the sentencing would have been more lenient.

From what I can see, the sentencing went to the extreme due to the video footage and the bragging that went with it, essentially sticking two fingers up at the law.

So no, don't be ridiculous. Doing 80mph on a dual carraigeway when you have judged the conditions to suit cannot be compared to an idiot doing 130mph on his back wheel whilst waving to the camera and then bragging about it like Johnny Big Balls on the internet.
