130mph web video biker is jailed

I can't see how anyone can think this is a fair punishment when people jailed for assault/GBH/burglary are being released early or with just a slap on the wrist.

Also as Fox said, a lot of people you see on "certain" programmes who go on a wild police chase, cause a trail of destruction and then when caught, get disqualified but freed to just carry on.

I'm not condoning what he did, but the punishment is quite frankly a joke. The justice system needs a kick in the nads with steel toecapped boots, tbh.

People are talking like all he did was ride fast, what he was originally reported for was for stunting on a busy street in front of witnesses, and causing a car to have to swerve to avoid him. The speeding only came up once the video evidence was found.

What I dont get is a user of the forum sister gets done for drink driving, crashies into thing with a kid in the car and gets 6 weeks, when this guy who is prolly a better rider than most ( I know hes a tool for doing it but it takes some skill to do that) gets 12 weeks, I mean WTF?

Briefly read about this before leaving work today and although I don’t know every factor in the case, I certainly don’t think jail was appropriate here, especially when you hear about the lenient sentences handed out to other criminals. Wasn’t there one where a woman killed a biker when changing a CD or something – got a £250 fine iirc, as it was a day/week before laws changed!

As a biker and a driver I have sped and will probably continue to, as I’m sure 99% of this forum have (the other 1% are non drivers), but have done so where conditions allowed and where I wouldn’t put anyone else at risk – just my own stupid neck. The mirror opposite, it would seem, to this guy.

As for the speed he was doing, the article does say it was impossible to attribute an exact speed but police have estimated he may have reached 130mph; incidentally the article reads speeding at more than 130mph – a nice bit of sensationalist journalism there!

As always, there are some very interesting views from people here, I especially like Scuzi’s post here for example, which I agree with in many ways; if it is true the guy had that sort of attitude towards his antics. But still – jailing him seems to me nothing more than being made an example of.

Scort.

can't believe some people are defending the tool!

at 130mpg hes a killing machine, hit something/someone and they are dead. regardless of how capable the bike is, its still an accident waiting to happen at that speed.

couple months back, some **** did roughly around same speed, he went straight into a focus and decapitated the driver and killed the passenger too, along with himself obviously. the driver of the focus was father of three iirc from neighbouring town, killed just like that.

the jail sentence is deserved, unfortunately he seems to be the 'example' to be made of, but regardless you just can't do that speed on a public road and expect lenience towards punishment.

Whilst I'm not defending the guy I would make a guess that whilst he was doing these high speeds and stunts he was paying much more attention to what was going on around him on the road than a large amount of other road users. Each day I see so many people driving around the speed limit but on their mobiles and their driving seems to be a secondary consideration.

You can argue over what's the more dangerous of the two but if you are caught on the phone you don't get a prison term.

Nobody's defending him, it's the fact the punishment doesn't fit the crime. He was speeding but they don't actually know how fast he was doing so made a figure up. A lengthy ban, fine and possibly community service would have been more than adequate for the wheelies etc.

Fog

warning *think of the children post* incoming

1. he didn't crash

2. no one was hurt

3. he provided entertainment on the net

lets face it, his bike doing 130mph is LESS dangerous to others than your truck doing 50, thats a fact
Speaking from experience of driving a truck @ 50MPH I can assure you that I'd have a lot more chance of avoiding potential disaster than Mr Biker going 80MPH FASTER than I am.

As a Professional driver,I am trained to anticipate events ahead of me and act accordingly, I'm quite sure @ 130MPH Mr Biker is equally aware of his surroundings and checking for potential danger ahead, oh! hang on a moment..... He's doing 130MPH..... Yeah! Right!

TBH, I don't even know why I am bothering replying to you.

Jail is a ridiculous punishment for a victimless crime. There is no denying the guy is infact a weapons grade plonker and he should be punished. A significant fine and a 12-18 month driving ban would do the trick.

But lock him up? With people who murder others?

Ridiculous, frankly.
The whole point of the Jail sentence is as an example to others.

If one butch biker who thinks he's "Mr Speed King" thinks twice about a stretch of enforced Gay sex after this, then the sentence has served its purpose. Prison is not a nice place - its often brutal, believe me, I know.
Hopefully, the thought of going there will deter the next Internet Entertainment provider from opening his throttles.

The Victims, Mr Fox ,are usually the innocent 3rd Party's involved when the end result is an accident rather than just a stretch of Bird.

If any of you know an ex Biker who these days needs help in everything he does (including Bathroom) then, perhaps, you'd understand my anger at some of the idiotic views expressed in this thread.

I've already seen too many dead Bikers over the years in my Job and I am deeply saddened that the trend, judging by some views expressed, is only going to continue. :(

you read the road ahead no more than me I rekon, since when is a 'trucker' some kind of uber advanced motorist.. well except for parking skills lol, you only gotta watch them on motorways to judge for yourself.

the biker has though, a lot less chance of causing carnage on road... look at sky news today, the poor biker still on front page yet another story of a trucker wiping out 2 adults and 3 children.

i'm not saying your a bad driver, but just trying to point out that this guy having a laugh on his bike is probably of less risk to the public than you trundling about in your truck.... it's all to do with mass / momentum.

i'd like to hazzard a guess I could stop in less distance from 130mph on bike than you could at 50 while maintaining a lot more control. you drive at 50mph all day ?, I hit 130 sorta speeds once in a blue moon for a split second... who is the safer on the road ?

bikers die

people die everyday on our roads

truckers generally live, they just crush everyone in their path
