1366 X58 Xeon 5650

Hi, as long as your bios is up to date it will work fine.
Looks like asus is too lazy to update the cpu support list. Anyway I already have the latest bios (1408). Also how is the performance compared to 920 on single thread at the same clock speeds, becasue all the bechmarks that I have looked so far use multiple threads. (or it is just the same performance with the only addition of 2 extra cores?)

Really liking the performance of this chip.

I managed to even get substantial improvements in F1 2013 and Wolfenstein. Perhaps my 920 @ 3.4 Ghz was limiting my 7970 somewhat.

Thanks a lot to the OP and posters mentioning this - I wouldn't have even given it a thought unless I stumbled across this thread,

Will probably be the best £50 processor I will ever buy ;)

Mine is uptodate 0908 P6T se

And windows will not boot .....?

Wonder if you've got a dud cpu? I've got the 5670 in the P6T and the 5650 in the P6TSE which is also BIOS 0908 and running Windows 2012 fine.

Its the only thing I can think of if the 920 was working fine.:(

Should be a little bit better I would thought with the extra cache, not sure exactly how much though. The extra 2 cores do make a big difference in general though.

There's a guy over at Linus' that has hit 4.8ghz with his.

I've invited him over :D

So I have just installed a 5650 in my P6T se mobo....

Booted into the bios fine...started windows and got a BSOD DC WATCHDOG VIOLATION...

I've had that every time I've had an unstable overclock on my 3970x. And every time it's been not enough voltage.

Is it worth getting a X5670 (£140) or X5680 (£220) over the X5660? Considering I was going to spend ~£450 on a 4790k + new motherboard I wonder If a £220 X5680 would give me similar or better performance at half the price?

I guess that is bad news then, because I am only interested in gaming performance, and very few games use more than 4 cores, so probably is no worth it.

I think it's fair to say more and more newer games will make use of the extra cores with hex core (and more) being more popular.

My Xeon is the best CPU upgrade I've ever had for the money.

More cores is the future.

;)

I cant see it being faulty...Its a bios setting I'm sure of it...

Can you post a screenie of your P6T SE and your xeon 5650 settings please?;)

The PC wouldn't boot with a faulty chip....

The bios sees the chip fine....

Update:

I will give anyone one million pounds as to what was causing the BSOD :D

The corsair H80 seems to be doing a good job of cooling :p 56c full load

hey guys thanks for all the help cant get mine past 3.9ghz no matter what it do wont post with blck at 200 just a question why not leave turbo on so then ill boost to 4.2 ish i think its because all the corse wont run a 4.2 then ?

SSD / hard drive SATA cable not connected properly?

Nope.... I thought it was a driver issue oddly having googled SSD

So I tried to install on a 160gb mechanical drive I had collecting dust....

In all my years building and clocking computers I have never come across the problem....:p

But I dug deep and now she is running sweet....

The clue was staring me in the face in this very thread !

Yeah....

Core speed is a balance between vcore and temps....if you need to pump to many volts through for 100mhz...you have found the sweet spot for your chip....:)

Have everything now, just waiting for my CPU to be delivered! :D
