1366 X58 Xeon 5650

I think it's fair to say more and more newer games will make use of the extra cores with hex core (and more) being more popular.

My Xeon is the best CPU upgrade I've ever had for the money.

More cores is the future.

;)
It is true more and more games in the future will be using 6 and 8 threads, but for now I have no use for 6 cores at all. My bigger issue is what if I don't manage to get it at 4.1Ghz(I curently have my 920 at 4.1GHz) it will be a downgrade :(

hey guys gone from 950 @4.2 to x5650 @3.9 would you class that as a down grade all i do is game i play wow bf4 sc2 far cry3 ect i only paid £50 for it so if it isn't end of the world ty for your help in this thread

I wouldn't say it's a downgrade, in heavily single threaded applications you've lost some raw speed, however it's hard to compare them perfectly like for like as the Xeon has a larger cache and is on a smaller process which may gain it some of that speed difference back.

I'd be surprised if you were CPU limited in any of those games to begin with so I would expect to see similar FPS.

Ah, this thread is making me almost regret my 920->4790k upgrade!

I had a full custom loop on the 920 too, I feel like the H80i on the 4790k is a downgrade :/

I almost want to get my x58 mobo out the cupboard and set it up again. The money I spent on the 4790k, mobo, ram, cooler, could have bought me a 780ti! :(

Been following this thread quite closely and the results seem great, how will it compare against a 3770k and is it worth spending the cash getting the CPU a x58 board and ram?

I could use it as my main PC and move the 3770k system for a music recording studio type room i'm planning on converting.

Not worth it no. This is existing X58 owners only really.

Does anyone know (or has one) if the 5650 would work in a Foxconn Bloodrage GTI motherboard?
I've tried looking it up on their website, but have had no luck finding a list of compatible cpu's.

Ah, thanks. I was looking for a list of cpu model numbers, completely missed it just saying gulftown. lol

Don't bet on that board.

IE- make sure you can return the Xeon if it doesn't work. I've had a Bloodrage and a Flamingblade and both were the most incompatible piles of poop I've ever used.

Get one up and running? you're fine. But it's usually getting them there.

Thanks to this thread, i picked a X5650 up on monday for the pricely sum of 50 pounds, atm is sitting happily at 4.2 (191 * 22) with EX58-UD5, 22 multi holding when stressing, max temp of 74 with Intel Burn Test, slightly disappointed with the vcore, seem pretty high, 1.376v after vdroop ?

Are you sure all cores are loaded at 22?

Please post a screenie to confirm

I can get 22x multiplayer with my 5650, but when all cores are active it changes to a 20x multiplier.
Lucky I can get my cpu to 4.3 at decent voltage
Still I have understand exactly how turbo works for this cpu.

http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/221/Intel_Core_i7_i7-3770K_vs_Intel_Xeon_X5650.html
Frequency (MHz) 2667
Turbo Frequency (MHz) 3067 / 3067 / 2933 / 2933 / 2933 / 2933
So this mean that 2 cores are going to always run that the max multiplier and the rest 4 cores at the stock multiplier ?

If you for arguments sake set to 20x multiplier, 200 BCLK to give 4GHz then turbo would be disabled. You'd hit 4GHz on all cores on full load and down clock when idle.
