1366 X58 Xeon 5650

Okay so just gone the full hog on my x58 system, seeing as my sabertooth has managed 223 blck with my 950 and poor 1600mhz kingston ram so just bought the following

silver arrow SB-E
X5670
12gb corsair dominator GT 12gb 2000mhz

Hopefully should get some beast results at the end of the week :D

Ahh champion, plenty to play at.

Currently trying to get 4.4 with ram at 1600 stable, think I am having qpi issues with 12gb. Just had bsod with a 0x9C code.

was already at 1.35v on Qpi though :s

3x4gb
or 6x2gb?

you could always try running with a single stick of ram and see if it passes.

6x2gb sticks.

Was thinking I might have to try reducing the ram, as oddly trying to up the vcore results in cinebench get slightly worse.

plus any bsod I get tend to be qpi/vcore related or qpi specific.

that could be a problem alright. Id try 1 stick and then 3x2gb and see how it goes.
6 sticks could be stressing it out to much.

The max safe vcore is the amount you use just before it goes pop :D

Mine arrived today, 5670/UD3R, will get it going this weekend...

Do you think 5 year old MX3 paste still works or fresh stuff required?

Decided to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch.

Passed IBT but I closed it before it dawned on me what I was doing.

Shame the vCore is slowly sneaking up as the temps are really quite happy.

Anyone had any luck with any xeon X56xx chips on a

Gigabyte EX58-UD3R rev 1.

The I7 920 is a really toasty power hungry chip, I used to have it running at 4ghz before my Water pump died, now I'm at stock but I don't really game much or do anything too heavy.

However if the say X5650 works then more cores and 125w down to 95w TDP It's a no brainier even at stock with my existing Thermalright 120 extreme. it'll speed up video encoding and ripen up my system for a decent mid level GPU again. maybe goto 12gb ram too.

There are a couple in this thread who have manged between 4 and 4.4 on the UD3R.

I have a 5670 to put in mine this weekend so will let you know how it goes

Mine the older EX58 not the X58A UD3R which seems to be the board of choice for these chips, I needed an add in card to get USB 3.0 for example.

I haven't seen any mentions via Google of the EX58-UD3R and 6 core xeons working nicely together.
