1366 X58 Xeon 5650

Well that's a nice little X5670 on it's merry way to me, time to dust off the old grey matter and read up on how to overclock this little beauty in time for it's arrival.

PC doesnt bsod or freeze, but fails ibt, i know my board can cope with 205 blk as i used it on my 920 overclock. I've upped the cpu core volts but no success.

Any help would be appreciated. ive not overclocked since i first got my 920 so im rather rusty to say the least.

;)

I really don't want to reduce the multi as that would limit my overclock a fair bit. Must be other settings I can change to get it sorted :p.

Edit, it also kind of defeats the purpose of me going for the 5670 rather than the 5650 if I go down that route.

Of course, sorry you have just witnessed the full effects of trying to post something whilst at work, when your brain has switched off for the day.

air, using a silver arrow.

This about right for a 4ghz oc?

Looks good to me mate. The multitasking score does seem a little low but on the FX 8320 I have it just mauls through that part. IIRC it's the bit where basically everything runs all at once and distributes over the entire core structure, so the AMD simply shines.

The other scores are higher than my AMD though which I would expect :)

Thanks mate, i tried to use similar settings but it crash's on the 2nd run everytime no matter what volts i use. i put them all the way up to 1.4 for 4.4ghz Also tried 1.4v for 4.2 and still no go(changed qpi etc aswell)...

Cool, Its running great. A bit disappointed as i was expecting 4.2 or 4.4 at least.

lol, no worries mate. ;)

What is the bios voltage compared to the cpu-z voltage . I think my board is nearly 0.2 less than bios and and even more at load. The cpu may not be getting the voltage you think it is.

Check 4ghz is stable at 200 bclk first. Suspect there is more stress on the system running 200 fsb so may need more voltage bumps elsewhere...

:)

How much more power do these consume vs. 920 being 6 core? Or does the 32nm v 45nm more than compensate for it

Just ordered my 5670. I have also got a UD3R so we can compare notes shortly... Hoping for 4.2 with 4.4 a bonus myself too.
