1366 X58 Xeon 5650

Was looking through this thread and there seems to be some confusion to the compatability of the GA-EX58-UD5 (rev. 1.0). Has anyone managed to get this set up.
Going by the Gigabyte support it states bios f12 support. Would be nice to get some more life out my set up.

I'm on the F13 bios with that board, and as you can see from my sig., it works fine.

Will a Supermicro X8STi motherboard and a Xeon 56xx series CPU be any good?

It appears to be compatible and I can get both within a £90-100 budget. Supermicro used to be a go to motherboard in dual celery days. Will be Linux based.

I have enough DDR3 (2000MHz) and a spare SSD/HDD. Just require a case and a PSU.

Need another toy. :D

xeon fitted and up and running with the f13 bios. now just need to get my head round this overclockin melarky:D

Some games still rely too much on single core speed so a few would take a hit, you could offset that by going for a higher chip such as X5675s instead as they are 3.3GHz turbo (all cores) vs 2.9GHz.

Not sure how turbo is implemented on server boards though.

temped to get a 5650 but unsure if my motherboard will support it.

I have the following mobo

Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58

looking on the website it says the following for CPU support and mobo is on the latest bios already

Intel® Socket 1366 Core™ i7 Extreme Edition/Core™ i7 Processors
Supports Intel® Turbo Boost Technology

I currently have a I7 950 @ 4ghz at the moment, PC is just used for gaming only so is it worth the upgrade?

It is supported.

I'm running a 5670 on mine. Just make sure you have the latest bios and all will be fine.

Totally worth it, been running mine @4.4Ghz for a few weeks, now, and it runs programmes effortlessly, while being nice and cool at the same time.

Really glad I came across it in the MM.

I have had a look on the usual auction site but the cheapest is about £50 but they are from the states (US) has anyone brought one from the US and got it working ok?

could be a tempted option and can then sell on my i7 950
