I have had a look on the usual auction site but the cheapest is about £50 but they are from the states (US) has anyone brought one from the US and got it working ok?
could be a tempted option and can then sell on my i7 950
Some games still rely too much on single core speed so a few would take a hit, you could offset that by going for a higher chip such as X5675s instead as they are 3.3GHz turbo (all cores) vs 2.9GHz.
Not sure how turbo is implemented on server boards though.
Anyone gonna try to make it to 10 years on X58 with these babies? 6 years down, 4 to go.
6 years down here too, longest previous motherboard was 3 years. The thing that will probably kill this off for me will be usb3 requirements (currently process file transfers over network to other usb3 enabled devices) and a lack of pcie slot support/needed for new graphics cards, pcie based SSD and other controller cards.
Yeah if DirectX 12 really drives the move to proper multicore gaming over the next few years, X58 will become even stronger in the face of newer competition. Pretty exciting. After some research, I am feeling even better about our platform and GFX options.
This review indicates that PCIE 2.0 is more than capable.
I run 2048x1152, so I think I should get a GFX card that runs 1440p well today, which should be good at 2048x1152 for the next couple of years... I reckon that the x58 platform could do a GTX980 justice at these resolutions, and these Xeon chips will get stronger with the improved CPU multi-threading utilised by DX12.
However, one of the points of this group is getting huge performance at a budget, so I might wait a little longer for GTX980 prices to drop more... then I'll be looking at Pascal!
Just to check before I press the buy button, there's no issues running a 980Ti with one of these and a P6T?

so which one is best to buy? they seem to range from £60 to £100 for the 5675. Which one is 21x? My board seems to like 21 x 200 the most with my i7-950.
Maybe i should get the one with 22x so i can make 4.4Ghz?
