Hi,

I purchased an 14900k from ocuk yesterday as I wanted to upgrade from my 12700k but I have come in to a problem, my pc wont boot now. I updated my bios on my Asus Z690-A Gaming D4 to the latest and installed the 14900k but the only thing what happens is the RGB lights up and thats it, no Qcode or anything when I press the power button. The best thing is putting my 12700k back in and still no boot, just RGB :(

I've tried the following so far to fix the problem:

Reinstalled the 12700k
Tried 1 stick of memory
Reseated the cpu using 12700k and 14900k
Reset CMOS / Removed battery
Bios Flashback to my last bios what i knew worked in my system

I'm at a loss now on what to do

The below picture is all what happens when power is connected

Thanks

Sounds like a corrupted BIOS.

Do you have BIOS flashback?
OP actually wrote

OP you did everything correct so far.
Next step remove RTX 4080 all NVME except 1 and pull battery again for a long enough time so the system is deengerized 100% and clear CMOS also.
Then update to latest BIOS again,ASUS can really suck bad but you will need the latest for sure.
Use Intel GPU to try and boot ,guess your glad you do not have full watercooling at a time like this.

Also you may have to reinstall windows on the Intel IGPU if it stil does not boot properly.

Do you have the monitor connected to the GPU or the motherboard? also make sure you only have 1 display if appropriate for troubleshooting.

EDIT: Though if fans aren't even spinning up, etc. then that is probably not a factor at this point.

Thanks so much for the advice, I’ve currently got its cmos battery removed and power cable. Going to leave it removed over night and see if it works in the morning.

i assume you had to move your case about? if so see if it works without the graphics card in there, it could be another asus board where the first pcie slot has failed. i could be wrong though.

It’s like the computer is in standby mode. All the lights are on except nothing happens when you press the power button. Leaving the cmos battery out overnight didn’t do anything . I’m going to strip it again and rebuild it on a motherboard box with very little components and see if that sorts it. I have a feeling it’s a motherboard rma situation tho

How frustrating for you, perhaps more so as you had a fully working system and merely swapped over the CPU. IIRC @Rroff had to use a beta BIOS for full support of his 14700k, even tho the previous non beta BIOS was supposed to support his 14700k.
Then again I see you have issues even going back to your AL CPU.
Hopefully you will get it to boot when you test it again later, removing the GPU etc.

Did you check the CPU socket for bent pins, as suggested previously...?

Good luck.

Bios 2602 was the first release bios to support 14th gen BUT on asus's website it recommends before updating the bios to download and install the ME firmware to version 16.1.27.2176 to insure optimal system settings.

If you have installed 2802 that has the same recommendation but ME firmare to install before updating the bios is 16.1.30.2264.

Problem is the latest ME firmare to support 2802 isnt on the site yet, the latest ME firmare is 16.1.27.2176 which would work with bios version 2602, if you scroll down the page near the bottom is where the firmare links are.

I would install the 12700k and roll back to 2004, if the pc works, great download ME firmare 16.1.27.2176 install that then update the bios to 2602.

Many thanks for that information, I’ll give it a go now. Fingers crossed.

I’ve tried rolling back to 2004 but still nothing. No boot led just rgb on io shield and keyboard and mouse. I’ve removed everything apart from my windows m2 and 1 stick of ram even tried a different psu.

ME firmware has to be installed before the bios update, and you can't roll back the ME. Not the best scenario.

But I think the fact that the fans aren't spinning points to something different.
More likely a short of some sort that is preventing the system from starting.

Unplug everything from the MB except the CPU PSU and one stick of ram, if you have an old air CPU cooler install it

I’ve tried with everything removed on a box with just the 24pin and 8 pin connected. No cpu or ram installed and still nothing happens so I’m putting it down to the board bricking itself.

Have you tried doing the bios flashback several times?
