16 year old bullying a Syrian refugee with a broken arm, choking and waterboarding him

OP is providing more entertainment in this thread.....

Bullying = bad

Although if I had my time again I would have kicked the **** out of some of the scum at my school which would make me the bully..

It’s harsh but not exactly uncommon bullying tbh... hardly waterboarding or as extreme as the thread title implies. Bully deserves a suspension at a minimum if not expulsion.

Being a Syrian shouldn’t mean this is treated any more seriously than if he were a nerd, a ginger or any other random person who is “different”.

I think authorities have become increasingly sensitive to a rise in violent racism. Something like this is taken very seriously so that it doesn't become a trend in schools. If a few boys start copying in jest and soon many of them will think that sort of behaviour is more socially acceptable. Then the scum grow up and you have a generation of violent racists which could instill their vile view on future generations.

Indeed.

Throwing water in somebodies face != waterbording lol.

Bullying is wrong, there's no need to overplay/sensationalise it with outrageous thread titles >.>

I mean I just literally copied the thread title from the source I found the video at, but I did find it pretty amusing that the title was such a concern to so many of you. Was extra amusing when it turned out that for those who took issue with the thread title had a particular theme with regards to their beliefs about foreigners. Just a coincidence though, I'm sure.

A coincidence indeed.

I have no issues with foreigners/immigrants/etc.

The thread title is daft though. But I appreciate that you didn't come up with it yourself. :p

What a thread title lol, talk about false advertising :D

Video seems to show an altercation between boys at school, possibly following on from an earlier confrontation; as the attacker appears to be saying "what you say now then?"... I'm guessing they had a falling out before.

As for waterboarding, erm, I don't think tipping a bit of water from a drinking bottle is really waterboarding :D :D :D

So I haven't listened to the video, but was the bully racist? Or are we inferring racism because the kid is from Syria?

As Scort says above...do we know if there was any provocation at all. Was the bigger lad's mum or younger brother (as examples) brought up at all? It sounded like the bigger lad said something like, "what have you got to say now then?" a few times. I also didn't hear anything racist said or inferred at all!?

Storm in a tea cup, but tune in tomorrow for when the smaller lad's brother turns up with a knife and there really is something worth making a thread about...

what baffles me is the bully has a facebook page littered with racist crap....

why is a 15/16 year old thinking about anything other than games/sport/sex/getting drunk in a graveyard on cheap cider

at that age I couldnt have cared less about anything other than the above..I certainly wasnt politically motivated to share my views in public

Well now up to £56k and the boy is being charged. All in a day's work. I bet there are a lot of angry bullied kids right now.

Not for the reasons you might imagine. Where were the police taking action when i had large rocks thrown at my neck and head when i was 14 causing serious injury? The only reason this story is getting traction is because he's a Refugee. This behaviour should have been stamped out this hard on all bullies decades ago.

I'm getting news alerts on my mobile about this, seriously?

With all that is going on in the world today this is main stream news worthy?

Also worth pointing out he's an economic migrant. Glad they got the got that did it though.

A bully actually getting punished? Teenage me would be cheering! It's sad but understandable that this case has received way more attention than the average bullying case will, but as someone who was bullied on and off for around 4 years I'm glad to see a bully being punished/called out.

Seemingly comes from a family of racists, not that 16 is too young to hold those views.

As Scort says above...do we know if there was any provocation at all.

In the video, the bully, identified as Bailey McLaren, can be seen walking up to the Syrian refugee, identified as 16-year-old Jamal, while holding a water bottle. The attacker appears to kick Jamal, who is much smaller than him, multiple times, while Jamal tries to walk away. He then suddenly grabs him by the throat and drags him to the ground while still choking the boy.

Jamal, the 16-year-old victim, moved to Huddersfield with his family as a refugee from Syria two years ago. Mohammed Tahir, who started a verified GoFundMe campaign to help Jamal and his family, wrote, “The victim Jamal is a refugee in the UK who has been subject to months of bullying along with his little sister. To the point where his little sister has broken the lenses in her glasses and attempted to cut her own wrists in school toilets.”

According to Tahir, Jamal’s sister has attempted suicide as a result of the cruelty she and her family have faced.

Also worth pointing out he's an economic migrant. Glad they got the got that did it though.

Economic migrant or not, this behaviour is pretty disgusting. The fact that this bullying went on unnoticed for months says something about the general attitude of the other pupils in the school
