16 year old bullying a Syrian refugee with a broken arm, choking and waterboarding him

Happens in every school every day, usually the victim doesn't get 50k though, just loses their pocket money.

I am afraid that when children's peers reject multiculturalism it does not bode well for the assimilation of yet more refugees and asylum seekers, nor more economic migrants arriving here. I can understand adults having strongly entrenched views on the waves of economic migrants arriving in Europe, but when 15 and 16 year olds from a "normal" school have strong views they back with physical assault it is foreboding.

Economic migrant or not, this behavior is pretty disgusting. The fact that this bullying went on unnoticed for months says something about the general attitude of the other pupils in the school

Apologies for missing this part you quoted...
"Jamal, the 16-year-old victim, moved to Huddersfield with his family as a refugee from Syria two years ago. Mohammed Tahir, who started a verified GoFundMe campaign to help Jamal and his family, wrote, “The victim Jamal is a refugee in the UK who has been subject to months of bullying along with his little sister. To the point where his little sister has broken the lenses in her glasses and attempted to cut her own wrists in school toilets. According to Tahir, Jamal’s sister has attempted suicide as a result of the cruelty she and her family have faced."

Yes, that is disgusting. It also doesn't say much for the school as a whole if this sort of thing goes under the radar. It comes across as this sort of thing being common place and not the exception at all there.

Kids are horrible, this is not a new thing you know

There are two sides to a story...

I was going to laugh at squirting drink in someones face for 2 seconds being described as waterboarding but framing stories to suit a particular narrative is what the fake news do everyday so why wouldn't people start doing it.

The police would have never been involved in such an incident in the past but it's good to see they have the spare resources to police playgrounds now, criminalising a 16 year old should really help him develop into an upstanding citizen.

The sister apparently attempted to slit her wrists at the school with her own broken glasses due to the bullying. I wouldn't belittle police involvement as policing playgrounds. Police have always got involved if someones safety is at risk.

The number of people who are UNsuccessful suicides is staggering, how hard can it be? Could it not be attention seeking? Maybe not at a trivial level, but attention seeking nonetheless? There's a druggie bint comes in the pub, and she makes a big play of showing her "self harmed, attempted suicide" arms and wrists to anyone new who might be gullible enough to buy her a drink. She always says "I did this last weekend". Yet the very minor wounds look to have healed months ago and few challenge it. I don't doubt she's a psychological and medical wreck, but until she's found in a pool of her own blood I am calling attention seeker.

Seems my opinion is unpopular...

Bullying is never good but it does seem like this is getting rather more attention because it's a Syrian that's getting bullied. Would a British boy/girl who had a sad backstory have gotten a donation? It seems like the money would be better spent on getting funding for the school to have better staff who can deal with these problems.

Holy... this thread.

The perpetrator is a Yaxley-Lennon follower and supports UKIP/BNP. He's a ******* racist, anyone purporting otherwise is just PFFFFFFFFT.

Hopefully he gets put on a permanent GCHQ blacklist.

Never underestimate the intelligence of people who frequent FB debates.

I'd say 99% of the time I visit Facebook it's depressing to see how thick people are. I thought we were doing alright as a species but it seems there are billions out there who can't make a cup of tea without drowning or stabbing themselves with a spoon.

I know a couple of those people and they aren't Facebook pondlife, they're intelligent people. But they are both from ethnic minority groups so maybe it hits closer to home for them.
