Wow if those are the prices, i hope ATI FAIL badly. Those prices are stupid:o

Not stupid at all, you've just been fooled by all the ATI fanboys who like to believe that AMD are in business for the benefit of the people.

If they have the best card they will charge the most money, if they don't they'll charge less... simples. ;)

Yep i had been fooled to be fair. GTX 280 it is i guess unless the price drops within next 2 weeks.:)

If that was aimed at me, I'm on a large display and require a performance card with good multimonitor support for my multiple displays. Oh and the fact I'm running on an X1900XT..

Not aimed at anyone specifically - but I would'nt say you were part of the 95% of people with those requirements :)

(aside) Will 95% of you really see any benefit in gameplay over what you have now or do you want to show you're e-peens and play benchmarks? :)

This is what will really put me off if the prices are high. There ain't nuttin' that needs more power than my 260's got, other than Crysis, which I have completed twice anyway.

I thought the GTX 285 was £200? I would not pay anymore than that for it.

If the 5850 is no more than £250 i will get that, im not paying above £300 for either card though.

Don't understand how people are supprised by this, it's a high end card with no competition they will charge a premium...at least until nvidia release their card.

I have no problem with spending £350 on a high end card, so long as it's not dual gpu based.

Nice to see ATI back in the game with a solid single gpu based cards, well at least in comparision to last gen.

The reason £300 is nasty is because we are basically getting the same that we got 1 year ago with the 4870 which was around £200 at launch or cheaper.

We are paying , or not as maybe the case, an extra £100 for the same thing essentially.

I fully understand why, there is no competition for ATI so why wouldn't they charge what they can.

How can a card, with more features, better speed, better heat management and more connections options be the same as a car released over 14 months ago? Please explain.

New benchies of the 5870 are out, they show a 40% increase over the 4870, which is more what I'd expect.. Which has annoyed me.

Link or be quiet.

What I mean is it's the latest next gen high end ATI card, just as the 4870 was ~15 months ago.

The cards seem very similar to me in terms of R&D requirement as well, both bringing a new DX version, both essentially made on the same architecture from what I can tell.

So why is ATI perhaps charging £300 for this new launch compared to a near identical launch 15 months ago where they charged £200? Competition of course, there is none for the 5870.

Sounds like a lot people have been believing that AMD/ATI are the peoples choice and only have your best interests at heart :D

New card , no competition , massive demand , surely they wouldn't be so cynical as to try and make a profit from those business conditions while they last ? :p

Yeah right ;)

Just because this has been NVIDIA's train of thought for the past few years?

Sometimes a company image is more important than making the absoloute most profit you can from a product.

I think for ATi overpricing the product is almost as dangerous as underpricing it.

A business is a business. I think AMD/ATi know their limits and boundaries. Lets not forget where they're coming from. It would be stupid for themt o screw over customers.

At least, this early. :P

+1 totally agree.

Nvidia and intel have always been seen as the big bully boys out for a quick buck on their premium products.

But, business is business and targets have to be met, even if it is to the detriment or not of the brand ? if its a good product, consumers have short memorys :)

AMD gouged when they had a superior product.

Within a month of Core 2's hitting the market, the top-end chips dropped by 60% or more in some cases.

I'm not bothered, you just have to appreciate you'll get ripped off far worse if there's no competition.
