1973 - MGB - Long term project :)

Can you let me know the type of bulbs you have used in each spot? Might save me some research! I am going to order T4W LEDs for the side-lights, but would like to order all in one batch, and am not with the car right now :)

I like the idea of reducing the load over the wiring!

I can do but yours might use different bulbs to mine as mine has the later interior/dash being an 1980/81 :)

Standard BGT spec engine. Nothing other than a plugs/leads and a service. I was thinking of putting in an accuspark kit. People seem to rave about them, and seems a nice cheap upgrade.
How about u?

twin k&n filters with metal top plate and using original bottom curved intakes
triple aaa needles on rebuilt carbs
full exhaust with sports manifold
magnecor leads
samco classic silicon hoses (stick with rubber ones, awful to seal)
CSI fully electronic dizzy with sport coil
alloy water pump pulley for big bhp

I want to rebuild my spare set of carbs with stay up floats and do the vizard flow mods. Plus remove the bi-metallic jet adjusters.

Probably rebuilding the carbs and updating the ignition. Starts and runs fine just about all the time. Mine gets used everyday and all through the winter. Fine on cold damp mornings etc :)

Next up I'll probably go for a medium spec head and maybe a camshaft then probably the clutch will need sorting. I'd love a moss supercharger though, that would be my dream buy:D

Dreaming of superchargers, well if I want one, I have to put the brakes right first :)

Ripped off the old drums, and took a look at the rears, looks suprisingly ok in there... The drums themselves need replacing, as there is quite a bit of scoring, but otherwise, all ok! Annoyingly, apart from that I accidentally pressed the brake pedal without the drum on, and some fluid spewed out of the drivers' side cyclinder. So, I think i might have Borked it... I dunno if they work too well once fluid has been pushed out of the seal, but I suppose others might know better, anyone?

I am taking from that, that the "brake imbalance over an axel" failure that it got previously is down to the fronts. However, I have new calipers/disks/pads and wheel bearings for the front. So once I have it back off axel stands and the rear is back together, it should be ready for MOT :)

Brakes all done on the rear, new drums and shoes, readjusted.
Car passed MOT but then failed to start for a while afterward until we took the dizzy apart and gapped it. So ordering a new distributer/coil and going electronic for reliability. Still has the original 25d which I might get refurbished later.
I also replaced all dash and most exterior bulbs with either led or whiter light bulbs. Made a huge difference at night :)
Looking at getting the door seals changed from the brown to black shortly too.
Considering getting the new wheels this month too :P
Need to get some decent door pulls too, originals are brown and a bit split/broken.
will get some new pics up soon :)
oh and bought some new tax for it. Last year I have to I think!

Excellent! :)

need pics!! and a video of the noise when you've got it starting again :D

Will see if I can get some pics tonight, might give is a run down to the shops and back as a post MOT shakedown :D
I also re-bled the clutch, as it was a bit spongy, i think I didnt do it properly last time. So used the easi-bleed system to get the pedal nice and hard, seems to have removed the slop, and held pressure overnight. So should make it much nicer to drive again :)
Door seals, dizzy/coil and Door pulls are all ordered as of last night!

In terms of wheels, I am thinking that Superlight/minilights in 15/5.5 combo should be fine. Rostyles are 5.5 so hoping for no rubbing. I am toying with black centres, as an homageto the rostyle :P

Oh, and last night i took out the a-pillar trims from the inside then pulled off the very bad vinyl covering in preparation for re-covering.
Not sure what with yet, I could use vinyl like i used for the trim, and door cappings, but i have seem some leather ones on ebay for £25 but cant help but feel thats a bit expensive!

Tonight I fitted the powerspark distributer and coil, only fired it up quickly to test and turned it off after a few seconds. It was running, but sounded rough, so I will need to re time it I think, that or I got the firing order wrong on the dizzy!
Ordered a timing gun just now, should be here on Friday so I can attempt to sort it out :)
must remember to get some pics up ASAP!

Thanks peeps :)
Couple of things I am now also considering:
Rear Suspension refresh:
The rear leaf springs are almost flat and slightly uneven from one side to the other, so looks like they need to be replaced, and it would seem daft not to do a freshen up with new bushes/etc whilst pulling it apart. So looking at finding a decent kit if possible. Checking out MOSS for conversion kits, and uprated leaf springs at the moment for a future shopping list.

Front suspension/bearings:
Still need to do the front brake callipers/disks/pads, so I was going to fit the new front wheel bearings (which i already have) whilst it was all apart, but I think I might wait to do it all in one go. However, as do want to be driving it occasionally in the coming months it would be best to wait. Also, if I am taking that apart, then tidying up the front suspension becomes a sensible idea too. I figure I can pull it apart, clean up all the parts, give them a nice coat of black and refit with new bushes and shocks. I do have a pair of spare standard front shocks lying about, so might see if can re-furbish them as a side job whilst doing other bits on the rear. I did see a (well respected) coilover conversion kit for £640 from Moss also, but I think I will wait for that sort of radical stuff much later during a full rebuild after a re-spray (;))and stick closer to standard for now.

Oh, and if I am getting some nice alloys, a rear disk conversion starts to seem like a good idea at a later date....

Now, I just need to explain to my other half how I am going to fund this all :D

I've got Bilsteins and composite springs on the back of mine and it gets very bouncy with under half a tank of fuel. I'm hope it beds with age.

I recently changed my engine mounts and I've found the best plan of action is always to order new nuts, bolts and brackets at the same (referring to the moss catalogue etc) With the age of the cars now the old gear is usually knackered and a pig to remove.

Ahh, ok. How were they to fit?

I think I also need get my self a decent set of imperial spanners too, as a lot of the bolts that I need to access are turning out to be a nightmare to get a socket onto, and my imperial spanners are thick and short, which makes access a nightmare!
