How much that has to do with the changes Labour has made is extremely debatable.

Perhaps but it seems that a lot of people will flag up all the bad things that have occurred during Labour's reign as being their fault and not credit them for the good things during the same period. I don't think that it works both ways, if people want to complain then fine but they should also be prepared to give credit where it is due.

Minimum Wage
BoE independence
Peace settlement in NI
Abolishing section 28
Dramatic cuts in waiting lists

Yes for the bank of England and peace settlement.
No to the the rest.
It's hardly an outstanding performance for over a decade of work. The negatives far out weight . The couple of good things.

You dont think cuts in waiting lists are a good thing? How strange.

They have cut the waiting list for easy treatments. But have increased the wait for more serious problems (that's my understanding anyway). More red tape. The invention of super hospitals, with the closure of smaller hospitals.

It's just like there plan for cops. Reclassify crimes. SO serious crimes fall. Solve small crimes, so the stats show a massive increase in arrests.

While not really tackling any problems.

Not saying you're wrong, but please explain how they have screwed the rest of the NHS up.

As an NHS it worked, i have day to day experience of the lack of confidence the health professionals have with the government

The current government has shifted the focus away from actually improving healthcare to making numbers look good

The MRSA superbug has largely been attributed to failing standards insides wards.

Labour has done good things with the NHS, notably the ammount of money its put in. But i wouldnt say the waiting list improvement was one of them. Theres an old saying that describes this sort of thing

"Theres lies, theres damned lies and theres statistics"

and thats before we get onto falling police numbers and the disaster that is the PCSO.

Traffic cops on BBC 1 the week before last was the best illustrator of this. Traffic police numbers have become so low, forces are struggling to cope. West / North / South Yorkshire police and Humberside have reacted to this by going on a blitz. All 4 forces combining together on 1 constabulary for a day. Process teams were setup so the arrested parties could be processed at the station whilst the traffic cops remained on the streets. They absolutely tore through grimsby that day, i doubt a single crime committing motorist got away with anything traffic related as grimsby was swarming with traffic police. Something like 17 uninsured drivers in one day.

It would be like this every day if the police had the resources to actually do their job.

Since when was this a 'good thing' ? Since 1997 NHS funding has gone up from £34 billion to £91 Billion. That is NOT value for money. This government sees the problem and just throws money at it whilst increasing taxes. It hasn't worked, the policy's don't work, and New Labour hasn't worked. Doctors and nurses deserve better.

Do you think the public would be in favour of the tax rises required to make this 4-fold increase in police numbers permanent?

You realise it was the Tories who introduced 'league tables' in 1993?

I agree Labour have been a disaster for Britain but let's make sure blame is attributed where it should be.

Wouldn't needed it, if you removed the red tape. An arrest at the beginning of a shift for a small crime. Will mean that cop being tied up for the rest of the shift with paperwork.

value for money is a difficult one to measure

but i certainly feel ive got my value for money. The new building at leeds general infimary has one of the leading neurological units in the whole of yorkshire. My mum was diagnosed with a Grade IV brain tumor and given 12 months to live by them. I can only describe the care she received there as the very best i could have expected.

Furthermore, i cant have seen that cutting edge building that leeds general have got, having been financed the way the NHS was under the Thatcher / Major administratations.

Dont get me wrong, theres no way id vote labour with the current policies, but i have seen an improvement in the NHS, even if perhaps its not quite as good as it could have been, given the ammount of money that was put in.

Was it financed from current government spending, or from PFI?

Paperwork is there for 2 reasons. Firstly to ensure that the police are accountable and secondly to ensure that everything is documented in order to raise the chances of a successful prosecution.

Are you really against these two aims?
