at the end of the day this and the valencia decision just do not go together - it's a joke WWF

No one has taken notice of the fact that it is the race stewards who make the decision not the FIA - only a number of these stewards are permenant i.e travel to every race.

Its a harsh penalty but i find it hard to believe there is a conspiracy. I remember schumacher being stripped of a win when his barge board was found to be too thin in certain areas, caused by him going of the track and of course the car bottoming out. Think that was in Belgium too.

if the roles were reversed i wouldnt have thought much of it.

lewis had a choice, bail there, brake (probably causing a spin/incident), or bail on the turf/high concrete kerb and plough into the side of kimi...ruining both their races and earning lewis a penalty for the next race, he chose the safer option for both parties involved, kimi was further ahead at the end of the chicane than at the start and then went dancing off into a wall through no fault but his own

Look guys, the thing is if it had been the other way round most of you would have wanted Kimi punished. It was pretty clear that Lewis did not back off enough after the chicane, he should have let some distance between him and Kimi; god knows he was fast enough and would've caught up with him quickly the truth is he is still inexperienced and impatient. If you really can't stand the sport so much don't watch it; there are always two sides to a story and I doubt how objectively people can argue on a forum where most people are from the UK!

I have to agree this is perhaps the best account of the reason that he got punished, fair or unfair LH still feels he needs to win everything and win it now, if he wants to be Champion (which he may still achieve in 2008), he needs to accept that some days you need to wait for your time to come.

We will just have to see what Ron does ref putting in a protest. If Lewis had backed off enough [which most people concede he did] then they are in for some real abuse from the press.

he's 100% right.

He's really not, he's basically saying you shouldn't try and overtake, and you should instead slam your brakes on and ruin all the work you've put in, it's easy to say he should have braked when you're looking at a still, and those speeds, on a slippery track, on a curb, haha.

How many times have we seen people forced off the track in this manner?

For me it does not matter that when LH yielded the place he did not yield by x amount as some people are harping on about.

The fact is he did yield the place as he was required to do under the laws of F1.

Another fact that people seem to be missing here is that KR did not finish the race.

Great teams, great drivers and a great track. With combination it looks like F1 would be great but add a dash of fia and it becomes a farce. I for one wouldn't mind seeing a break away league. Would get rid of f1's big problems, Stupid fia rules/bias and Bernnie

Hamilton did let the Finn pass him after the chicane, but he then used the slipstream of the Ferrari to immediately launch a successful overtaking move at the next corner.

The plank not bargeboard.

The plank is there to keep them a certain minimum distance off the ground to severly reduce ground effect.

The barge board problem, they were disqualified then reinstated after an appeal - for designing an illegal part and manafacturing it and using it becuase they argued that it gave no advantage...

Yet, Shumacher used the escape road to prevent De La Rosa overtaking him several times and wasn't punished at all.

Translation: Don't you dare use a slipstream to overtake, even if you have complied to all the rules.

But do the rules say that you have to yield by x amount of car lengths or slow to a certain speed, no I do no think they do.

Plus KR did not even finish the race!!

Hamilton almost ahead at the breaking point for the chicaine. KR should have given him more space as it's obvious he was there however:

Kimi left him no room. Cutting the chicane was the only way to avoid collision. Maybe he could have braked but that may have caused a collision.

Whilst I feel that Hamilton has been hard done by it is not up to KR to give "space" to a car. KR was well within his right to not give Hamilton any room and force Hamilton to either brake or go off track.

Hamilton on many occasion has reduced the space for a car next to him, its simply down to who has the frontal position.
