2008 Japanese GP - Race 16/18

Looks like hamilton has blown it again sigh :o

Christ, he hasn't lost the title yet. He hasn't even lost the lead in the championship. Alright, between them he and McLaren managed to squander a larger lead in the final two races last year but I can't see it happening again. If it does, then they ought to have a re-evaluation about proceedings at Woking....

God forbid a driver actually tried to take a corner.

As a Hamilton fan, i realize the concept may be alien to you :p

It's the most logical option though... if you outbrake yourself going into a tight corner like that you would just take the escape road  That way he would have avoided the incident and penalty altogether and he would have scored loads more points because LH was pitting anyway from the flat spotted tyres.

I wasn't trying to defend LH. Just pointing out that Massa *did* have an escape road option but decided not to use it.

Lewis is showing the same flaws as he did last year, I think Massa has a good chance if he outscores Lewis in China then its game on as Massa is immense at Brazil.

you underestimate the FIA

That's a different matter. I'm talking about a repeat performance of Hamilton and McLaren choking at the end of the year and allowing Kimi to just sneak on by. If Max "I've been a very, very naughty boy" Mosley was to interfere with the title fight then that's completely different.

LH really needs to win China because I don't think he will be able to handle the pressure in Brazil if he doesn't !

shamelessly copied from pistonheads, but this really sums it up - so sad

I think the guys who ran the city have now moved to betting on F1

Clearly another sad day for F1. Anyone who remembers Monaco last year will recall a ridiculously late brake by Raikonen causing total destruction of Sutil's car. No penalty, no apology, nothing. A post race penalty against Massa for his pit lane incident a few races back results in a small fine, yet post race penalties against Hammy and Bourdais result in a time penalty. Putting aside any suggestion of bias, the inconsistency not only of judgements, but also of penalties handed out is destroying the sport. In what other sport do we need to wait until 2 hours after the end to know the final result?

As for first corner incidents, there is rarely a race when somebody, somewhere in the field is not pushed wide, this is part of the sport and dare I say it, one of the most exciting parts of many races.

and there are too many other examples

Watched this live, only just heard about Bourdais "penalty". It looks like the FIA are trying to stop any one from driving with any sort of aggression in the sport.

I understand it's not stock cars but still.

Ron Dennis "surprised" by Hamilton penalty.

Oh, Ron....

So, you honestly think that a driver who brakes so late and in so much of a panic that he destroys his tyres, who nearly takes out his team mate and who pushes a rival driver off the circuit doesn't deserve a penalty? Especially when there is actually a rule covering it (Article 16.1), rather than the stewards just making **** up like they were at Spa?

*sigh*

hmm are you serious? if you watch the replay, it clearly shows that Hammi was on his own, Kovi drove into Kimi and forced him wide.

Look at this replay of Massa hitting Hamilton. There is an escape road clearly visible that Massa, in all his infinite wisdom, decided not to take!

Yes but why should he since he actually DID make the corner why would he need to? I think kudos to Massa for not letting Hamilton boss him off track and stand his line.

I actually think the penalty was not fair and have a justification, but I think it would be obselete trying to argue this one out since Im sure Nathan that we both have differing opinions and we're set into them :)

Now for next weekend if you could just predict the total annihilation of Massas car on the first lap then that would be great ok.
I dont want him harmed, I just want him stopped
:D

I'll work on it knip but I cant pro...

Hey wait a second Im a Ferrari fan I'll do no such thing thank you very much! :D

Would you like me to conjure up something sinister for Hamilton though :D ?

But going back to the race.

Massa nudges Hamilton. Hamilton spins and gets drive thru. Ok fair cop.
Sebastian nudges Massa. Sebastian gets his 25 second penalty. You think its fair that a Ferrari nudges another car therefore gets a penalty but when another car nudges a Ferrari, they should get nothing? (Actually F1 has been anything but fair of late :D)

At the point when the clip pauses, you can see that Sebastian has plenty of track to his RIGHT side. He didnt need to drift left towards Massa.
And from that shot, Massa is ahead in the corner, he has the corner, I think the penalty is justified.

He could have moved right but if his speed was such he may not have been able too.

Just got back and seen Bourdais' penalty which is a farce, the FIA are setting precedents and its all well and good them changing the aerodynamics for better overtaking but if you're not allowed to incase something goes wrong then why bother because everyone will be scared too.

The massa penalty was fair and to some extent the hamilton one, don't know why he braked that late, should have just settled for second place. OHwell fingers crossed for next weekend.
