2011 BBQ THREAD!

Seasoned Salt

Ingredients

2 Tablespoons salt
2 Teaspoons sugar
1/2 Teaspoon paprika
1/4 Teaspoon turmeric
1/4 Teaspoon onion powder
1/4 Teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 Teaspoon cornstarch

That's pretty close to Lawrys but you could add a little chilli powder, cayenne pepper or mustard powder if you like too.

Mix together, put in a shaker and sprinkle on meat n' stuff.

i like your taste lol

Saw this in Target in USA and thought of your post. :D

How much does it hold? 2.5 kilos or are they tiny?
Do home base do anything else like weever charcoal and wood chips?
They are slightly smaller than the Weber chimney starters but still hold a reasonable amount, certainly enough for a standard sized kettle bbq anyway.

Yeah they sell pretty much all the Weber range, they have woodchips and other things like rubs etc but you will probably pay more for them there than off a dedicated bbq shop online or something.

Any idea how much? Rough guess or have you nit used it yet. I haven't got a standard BBQ. Need around 3 kilos for slow cooking and 5kilos for BBQing.

Im actually using it as i type :) and i used it earlier as well. It a guess i would say 2.5 kilos, but you could always get 2 homebase ones for the price of a weber one and that would do your 5 kilos. When its cooled down ill weigh it for you and let you know exact amounts :)

Alternatively you could modify a metal bucket with a rack instead of the solid bottom, drill some holes for airflow, should do the job. Heat mey be a problem on second thoughts...

That's it sold, especially as it's two for 3, will have to see what can pick up on the 3rd item.

Now does anyone want to buy my rust bucket BBQ for 140 so I can get that smoker.

i've bought one of these from argos, main attraction for me was you can turn the hood into even more meat space which is a WIN for any man. also bought a couple of bags of restaurant grade lump wood from Makro :)

it's such a refreshing change from my gas bbq - loving it :D

anyone got any good websites for ordering bbq meat from ?

Also like to know this. Also really want one place that sell baby back ribs, lamb ribs and beef short ribs. I can't find anyone who does all 3. Not even my amazing local butcher does short beef ribs or lamb ribs :(

Meh there are so many threads like this one that I would browse and enjoy if they were in GD but as they are in food (and at no point to I think - 'oh I'll read about food') I end up missing them all :(

BBQ food is yum-tastic :)

jar of pataks korma paste (paste not ordinary sauce), add a carton of natural yoghurt, some coconut paste and mix well.

add in chicken breast goujons and mix well.
stick in the fridge for a couple of hours - it almost sets :)

cook on hot bbq and baste as needed.

lovely.
