2011 Weight Loss Thread!

Just thought I would bump this thread up again!

Still sticking to my usual routine (gym 4 times a week, but I've not done any weight lifting for nearly 2 months now and I do a full 2 hours cardio) and keeping below a 1600 cal/day diet and when I weight myself last week I was at 11st 13, when I last posted on here I think back in late June/early July I was around 13st 4 I think.

I last weighed myself this morning and I have somehow crept up to 12st 1, but I think this may of been due to eating out both Friday & Saturday night whilst out with friends, doh!!

Just one thing that still concerns me, now and again I still get a craving sometimes during the day while at work, but mostly after dinner and that is for something like biscuits etc. Most of the time I do not give it, but I really want to beat the craving. Any ideas guys? Currently during the day I only eat cereal for breakfast, a sandwich, pack of skips & a small snack bar for lunch (there called Chewies I think, there simular to breakfast bars). Then I do not eat anything else until the evening after I get back from the gym, which will be a full cooked dinner.

Thanks all - Liam

Confused with mine. I was 15.5 stone at the start of the year, lost a stone in the first two months with a rowing machine 5 times a week and around 1,500 calories a day (net). I then gained 0.5 stone and lost it again pretty quickly. For the last two months I have been going to the gym 4/5 times a week and eating around 1,500 calories a day (net), two weeks ago I didn't go the gym for a week and dropped half a stone. I have since regained the half stone. Some weekends I have gone over my calorie intake but rarely over the normal recommended 2,500 and I can't seem to properly lose the weight.

I am 6 feet tall, gym consists of spinning, circuit training, core and boxerobics.

Just thought I'd post a little update on whats been happening with me.

I managed to get down to 18st10 the day before we left for our overnight stop in Gatwick before flying out to Orlando, the day we flew into Gatwick my diet stopped. I had all sorts of crap to eat just whilst in London for the day. We landed in Gatwick at 12pm and headed in to Crawley for lunch and to watch the Inbetweeners movie. I had a Subway foot long for lunch, which was amazing, we don't have a Subway or any other fast food chain in Guernsey for that matter! I then had some Ben&Jerrys ice cream in the cinema and popcorn. In the evening we went to the M&S in Gatwick arrivals and had a sandwich meal deal with a chocolate mousse thing, a generally woeful day for my calorie intake, but hey I was on holiday! Woke up the morning of our flight to Orlando and had a McDonalds breakfast in the morning which was a real treat, as I said earlier, no fast food in Guernsey!

The whole time in Florida my calorie consumption was off the chain, everything is so much bigger, greasier and cheaper in the good ol' US of A! I was having huge burgers, huge pizzas, huge steaks or TexMex style food every day of the holiday, of course most of it was served with fries too! I was having calorie filled and sugar laden drinks to wash all this down, as well as a beer or two most nights in the hotel room. After two weeks of eating like this I started to feel fat again, not as in bigger but my energy levels depleted, I found it difficult to get up in the mornings, started getting spots and just felt generally uncomfortable in my own skin.

When I arrived back in Guernsey the first thing I did was jump on the scales to find out how much of a set back I had had and was shocked to have put on a full stone in 16 nights worth of holiday, almost a full pound a day or around a 3500kcal overeat per day, bear in mind it was an active holiday too with hours of walking per day and swimming for a few hours every other day too! That night was the last of my holiday so I topped it all off with a nice big chinese take away, something we hadn't had locally for months.

I got back on the diet this Wednesday and am quite shocked at how quickly that stone has dropped off, well almost all of it, this evening on the scales I weighed 18st13, only 3lb more than I left Guernsey at or 11lbs lighter than I did on Tuesday evening. I've no idea why I retained so much weight over the holiday or why it dropped off so quickly after that, what I do know though is that I'm so pleased I've only added 3lbs over two weeks of USA fast food style eating, and I also had a brief reminder of how nutritionally crap food had been making me feel for the past 7 years.

Hi Again,

Pretty much the same story for me re: holiday weight gain.

I went to cornwall for a week with a few friends at the end of august / beginning of September.

The diet was off the table, hell i was on holiday right, i didn't snack much but my 2 main meals everyday were shocking. My breakfast was the only thing that was ok, i'm a cereal guy, even when i was at my biggest i ate weetabix for breakfast and that didn't change on holiday. My 2 main meals was eating out everyday and i pretty much went through the lot throughout the week. Steaks, Pizza's, Chips, pasties etc etc. I also drank 4-6 pints of lager a day.

In just 7 days i put on half a stone, and as rusty noob states, i felt pretty shocking by the end of the week, i felt tired / low on energy, greasy skin, even though i maintained my normal levels of hygiene by showering everyday etc. You really can't believe how such a bad diet can effect you, and i can't believe i put up with it for so many years beforehand.

I've been back for almost 2 weeks at i've lost 5 of those 7 pounds already (now 18st 10, for those not in the know i was 30st 12 at my biggest), and again as rusty noob states i can't believe it's dropped off so quickly as i haven't got fully back up to speed with regards to the amount of exercise i was doing. Before my holiday i was on the treadmill at least 4 times a week and i've only been on it 4-5 times since returning. I did instantly go back to my healthy diet the day after my return though.

It was definately a good wake up call / reminder not to slip back into my old ways.

An update on my situation.

I cut out as much carbs as possible, replaced cereal with bread. I exercise 3 nights a week, 45 mins on a rowing machine and some weights after. I've lost over a stone and now weight just under 16 stone. I'm now hoping to lose another stone by late August/early September.

Another update.

I achieved my target in the quote above (a little late though), I now weigh just under 15 stone. The weight loss is slowing down a lot now though, and it's funny that I don't look any different now than I did at 17 stone (although I was always one of those people who never looked as heavy as they actually were).

I've been to see a diabetic specialist and a dietician today, and my blood sugar levels are a lot more stable now, despite the lower carbs and weight loss, good stuff.

I think I'll set myself another target.. Let's say 14 stone by February, considering the weight loss has slowed down a lot. I may require another diet change to achieve this, but now that I'm carb counting correctly it shouldn't be a problem.

Congrats to everyone in this thread.

I myself went from 9st to 11st 9lb's

And i have to say i feel a lot more energetic, happy, and look a lot better and healthier for it.

I know its not a weight loss. But its an achievement to me.

Water. The same thing happened to me, I put on 10lbs when i weighted myself the day I came back from holiday, I weighed myself the next day and had lost 8lbs, funnily, I felt very similar when overeating on holiday and really didnt enjoy it that much other than the first few days, I looked forward to getting back home.

I still think you rely on scales too much, I do the same, its a terrible habit, im trying to just go by the mirror now.

Water binds to the carbs/food you eat. Thats why when you get back to eating sensibly you lose the weight.

Good efforts here from a lot of posters, well done and you'll feel a lot better for it (coming from a fat till ~16/17 kid turn relatively muscular/lean 20 year old) :)

Just an update from me, weightloss is still going very well, down to just under 17st, start weight at the beginning of the year was almost 23st, aiming for another 2st loss by Feb.

Another update then guys,

I'm now 17st 13llbs, 1 more pound = a total of 13st :)

I'm now a regular gym attender, i have even bought myself 6 sessions with a personal trainer. My god he is putting me through my paces :D. I've been doing spinning classes, cross trainer, exercise bikes, rowing machines and even circuit style training by running with weights, jumping over obstacles, you know that type of stuff.

I did get some bad news 2 weeks ago though, the local PCT have refused to pay for my skin removal surgery . Mad doesn't cut it at the moment, i've actually put the effort in for 14 months of my life to sort myself out, granted out of the mess i got myself into, but when i need the NHS's help i can't get it. I know it's not a bottomless pit of money and we can't afford to pay for everything / anything everyone wants or needs but it still sucks, especially as i have worked for the NHS for the past 13 years lol!!!! (seriously i know that doesn't come into it)

My GP wasn't impressed so that is something and he is right behind me and is putting together an appeal. Apparently i didn't meet the criteria so we'll see what happens over the next few months.

Just another update from me!

As of the end of this week I now weight 11st 2lb. Now the week before last I came down with a bit of food poisoning and I never really went to the gym properly for that whole week, and to my shock I somehow still managed to loose 4 pounds in that week! I've felt much better this week but I've only been down to the gym twice as I was on holiday last weekend and did not get back to work until Weds. However, as of tomorrow I will be back to my normal 4 sessions per week.

Despite how much weight I have lost throughout the last 7 months (nearly 4 stone altogether) everyone (including my gf) keeps telling me that I shouldn't really do any more cardio from now on as apparently I will look too thin! I've been thinking this weekend how to go about the gym from now often, and the only thing that frightens me the most and the only thing that I don't want to do is put any weight on, even if I don't loose anymore and stay exactly where I am - I would be happy with that. Could you guys possibly give me any advice here?

People keep telling me that the 1 thing I need to start focusing on now is weight lifting and to start toning up a bit. I'm just after a bit of advice of how to start it off properly and how much to start doing per session? Also, shall I still stick to some cardio so I can maintain my weight?

Thanks all - Liam

Good work everyone!

I weighed myself this morning - 12st 10

That's 4st 4lbs in total from me. I fell off the wagon for a couple of weeks due to a lot of work stresses and not giving me any time to get some proper food in the house so I ordered take away a lot but I'm back on track now! :)

I used to binge pretty often, whole packets of biscuits, whole tubes of Pringles in a sitting etc, I started by removing any foods that would trigger a binge from the house and slowly introduced them into the house again until how I thought about food and eating in general had changed completely, I no longer binge eat any more, I can have junk in the house and not have to eat it all, the main part of my weight loss was thinking of food as fuel and not some kind of reward or emotional crutch.

Once my mind was in the right place regarding food, it's been a lot easier to reduce portion size, limit the amount of processed carbs in my diet and increase the amount of protein and fat in my diet. Combined with increasing my exercise, mostly walking, though I will be joining a gym soon to start doing some weight training I've seen a steady weight loss of around 2-3 lbs per week.

Recently I've been doing Intermittent fasting which fits into my life pretty well and means I get to sleep a bit longer since I don't have to worry about breakfast in the morning. Plus it's taught me what being hungry actually feels like and not just boredom or mental hunger.

Cookie12 has appeared in an online magazine so it's nothing he hasn't already said here.
With his permission I'd love to put the before & after pics with his face blanked out because personally it is the biggest weightloss I've witnessed.
