2012 Mac Mini

Finally finished the Mac mini system today... The asus pb278q is stunning running at 2560 * 1440 via mini display port to display port cable..

Perfect mac setup :)

That Asus looks great, how are the colours since people are having issues, but then again thats with HDMI connection

All looks good to me... you have to use the display port as DVI / HDMI don't support that high a res.

It's a dam expensive monitor though, but a lot cheaper than a Apple screen and I doubt much difference in performance.

Yeah I've stopped using HDMI to HDMI now and using Displayport.

It is expensive monitor and on offer, ive had my 24" Prolite for nearly 3 years now so maybe time to upgrade lol

Right lads this is the magical week I should be able to pull the trigger on my mini! :D

Ordered a data doubler kit from owc last night for £35 with shipping which isn't too bad (don't have all the torx bits to do it any more), spent £60 on 16 gig of ram (with 7% back from quidco) and got a 256gb M4 in the amazon sale.

Only real decision left is if I want the pov spec quad core or if the 2.6ghz upgrade is worth the money/wait (HE discount is still applicable here too thankfully). Anyone with a little advice as it is a tough decision to order the good one now or just pop to watford to pick up the normal spec one when everything else turns up....

From what I've read:

Flickering/blacking/snow issues is from the HDMI port. Whether you use it straight through as HDMI, or you convert to DVI, it's the HDMI port at fault.

Poor colour issues is by ending up with HDMI. The people that have colour issues have it whether they come out of the HDMI port, or whether they're using a MDP to HDMI adapter. They don't have it if they adapt the HDMI port to DVI.

Lots of people seem to have the issues and having a replacement Mac Mini doesn't fix it... implying that it's a design problem with all of them. But then some people don't have the problem at all. My guess is that it's a EDID/HDCP handshake issue with certain makes of screen, thus why people with other screen brands don't see the issue and those that do see the issue find that it's not fixed with a replacement Mac Mini. I'd hope that firmware should be able to fix it.

My monitor is connected via DVI with the adapter and I'm having the same blackout issues.

Doesn't particularly bother me as it only lasts a second when it does happen.

If my theory (based on reading those threads) is right, using a MDP to DVI adapter will fix your issue... but obviously it would then show itself if you went dual monitor and used the HDMI port again. Might be worth trying to get a MDP to DVI adapter from Apple Support?

I'll give that a try next time I'm in store, thanks.

My keyboard doesn't sit flush against the desk either and taps against the wood every time I press a key. Highly annoying when I'm not wearing my headphones.
