---2012 Nexus Phone facts/rumours/info thread---

25+ apps? ok...My S2 says otherwise.

i don't understand though, are we expecting these small smartphones to be able to constantly have apps laying dormant in the background? you shouldn't have more than say a dozen actual apps ie gmail or thetrainline or chrome or whatever similar sized app sitting running in the background before you the user can go clear it up. also i think jellybean can close all background processes so even if you open 'x' app then press home it removes it straight from memory.

im also slightly concerned about what extra cost the user will get for having a larger 2gb memory storage when in fact it costs then very little to change from 1gb to 2gb. I'd expect the increase in memory size might impact on the latency times also for the memory or am i wrong?

I actually thought the difference would be much greater. The vids don't show much difference in everyday usage IMHO. Then again, I am not plugged into my phone 24/7. If it happens to take an extra 0.5-1 sec to open an app, I won't be losing any sleep

The 2nd vid is a bit weird. Granted it is the same SoC but its not like for like as it is Sense v TW to begin with.

Is there a reason why fixed storage seems to still cost so much in phones?

SSD's seem to be endlessly dropping in price yet Apple for instance charge £170 for a measly 48GB of storage, that money can buy me a 256GB SSD with change!

The price difference for apple was what 20£, they just rake in the cash.

Don't get me wrong, 2GB RAM won't set the world on fire with blistering performance over 1GB RAM. It's merely a nicety to know that more of your most used apps will be kept in RAM and load instantly without having to load from cold thanks to the extra gig.

Point in case would be my QuickPic app which takes a few seconds to load from cold or my SMS app which gets dumped from RAM from time to time etc etc.

Memory is a bitch right now with cm10 and its memory leaks, Also think it would be nice to be able to play a game, stop, do lots of over things and come back to it.

Google is said to be opening up the Optimus program to anyone who wants to make devices for it. As long as they meet Google's standards, that is.

they mean nexus program right?

You should read up on how Linux works.
