2012 Weight Loss Thread

Using apps is fine and can be very beneficial, manually tracking data on a notepad is more work if anything. Calorie counting can also be very useful and in some cases be almost essential. Very often people will think they're eating well enough to lose weight, only to realise at the end of the week they weren't paying close enough attention and so lost nothing.

Don't know that cheets is the shining example of how to shift weight, lost a stone, out on the lash every weekend then gave up through winter. Could have shifted every pound by now if you'd just kept at it :p.

Everyone in this thread that gets their results, you did exactly whatever worked for you, therefore you did the right thing.

This is my progress so far in 33 days. Am doing the Power 90 workout program and eating better (tracking my calories with myfitnesspal). Still need some work on my eating, specifically the times I eat. In the nutrition plan it says to not eat 3 hours before bed, I just can't do it lol. Any tips??

Here is a progress pic (blush):

okay mate, like I said I did it with little technology, not saying its crap but you do not need it, I am old school

I did zero calorie counting, went back to what I knew, lean meats, steam veg, rice certain fruits and nuts, odd treat, you need to know what fuels the body, I was all over the place didn't care, was on KFC like it was crack cocaine, treats like they were not treats, zero exercise = obese millions of people like that in this country.

I agree that the apps aren't necessary but I've found them a great help for giving me more than just weight as a measure of how I'm doing. I've cut back on bad food but certainly don't just do lean meat, veg and brown rice as that's not something I can keep up long term so I don't see the point.

For me, I want to lose weight but I also wanted to get myself healthy and the apps are quite handy for giving you some structure. I could use a notepad but since I already have my iPhone for music, it's a lot easier to just use that.

I started off unable to run more than a few hundred metres and today managed to run a mile in under 6 minutes as well as doing another 40 minutes of cardio so for me I've really benefited from the easy tracking of iPhone apps :)

At the end of the day, whatever works is good, I guess that being a technology forum I would expect apps to appeal to a larger number of people on here so thought it was worth mentioning a few.

I do agree with you in essence, simplicity is something I would always advocate. The thing with trying to drop weight, it's almost all in the mind and we all use slight variations in our approach in order to get us in the correct mindset to reach our goals. As long as people don't start to see apps as doing the work for them, they can be useful to track pretty much any area of health and fitness.

Of course if people can do it without any apps or calorie counting (as you did), that is absolutely just as valid. The one single principle that applies to all, is that if you put your mind to it, you can and will achieve your goals.

Btw, alangelluk that's some impressive loss for only a month, keep at it and you'll be there in no time :).

here is my 2p worth!
I started weightwatchers and going to the gym and so far here are my results no pic of me yet am still tubby maybe when I real goal:)

Twelfth week weigh in:

Last Sunday - 19st 11lb
This Sunday - 19st 3lb

8lb loss

Really don't know how I've managed this one, I have done 3 bike rides this week though...

(Total loss since September '11 - 6st 10lb )

Week 12 Weigh in:

Starting weight beginning of January 14st 6lb
Target weight end of June 11st

Last Monday 12st 5lb
This Monday 12st 3lb

2lb lost

Another steady loss for me this week, I did 3 x 2.8 mile runs, 10 x 5 mile cycle rides and a 5 mile brisk walk (4mph) on Sunday. However I did have a really naughty meal out on Saturday night that was an estimated 1500 calories! So all in all I'm pleased to have made another loss :)

Well done Maxeh that's a big number! I find and also read cycling and running are the best forms of cardio for weight loss :)

Ok guys, so i keep posting but putting it off so today it is d-day and i am going to do it! Get this fat off my stomach!!!!

Week 1;
12st 1lb

I am about to go and do a 2 mile jog around the local park something i will repeat 3 times 4 days a week which is going to be my basic exercise as well as walking to college/work during the day and also i play football twice a week so that will add up!

Today i was looking at how i can alter my diet to suit my fat loss also and using many different calorie counters they averaged at 1970 calories a day. Can anyone recommend/build me a diet that i can follow that will get me around this level?

Thanks and congrats/good luck everyone else who is doing their own thing :D

If you have a smart phone download the free app "MyFitnessPal" then enter your details into that and it will give you a daily calorie limit. Follow this and enter absolutely everything you eat and drink (don't miss any little snacks). You can also enter any exercise you do and this will then give you extra calories on top of your daily net calories.

It will be a case of cutting out snacks and cutting down on portion size. The app will make you think about better more filling and lower calorie foods as you try to get more food for your calories.

Always try and do about 30 mins of cardio a day and sweat!!!

I think most people fail to lose weight even when on diets because they simply snack too much and think nothing of it. A single egg custard is 240 calories the same as a bowl of oats and a cup of tea yet you would hardly notice you'd eaten the cake!

Thanks Pumaz.
I have Blackberry! :o but can get the app and it does look very good and very helpful.

Regarding snacks this is my worse downfall! Especially nuts. They are fine though aren't they? or should i cut these down also?

I will combine all of the help on here and post back regularly. Thank you all for your help.
