2012 Weight Loss Thread

I had spells where I put on weight 3-4 days in a row (only a bit each time) and could find no reason, then had a run of days where it seemed to fall off. With a BMI of 35, I would really do some measurements with tape, you should see some great improvements. You thought about doing some weightlifting? Nice change from cardio and the more muscle you have the more calories your body uses even when you're sat on your bum.

I do the gym twice a week on a Friday and a Sunday, run on a Tuesday evening and try and walk 2 miles every lunchtime at work. I do cardio at the gym then weights.

I have lost 2.5 stone in the last three months, I just feel cheated that I did such a lot of work and got nothing from it. Apart from sore nipples

This was the last week. Wednesday I did not log but did around 1.5 miles.

Oh well onto the next week, hopefully a decent loss next Saturday morning.

I have spent the last hour reading this thread from start to finish, so its given me some inspiration to get on with it.

So interesting to see how people differ in goals due to height etc

Being 6ft 4" and pretty big overall when I started training 3 years ago I got down to 16.5 stone (105KG) after a year and was in the best shape of my life (I think I was about 14% BF).

A slipped disc in my back that finished healing earlier this year (after 2 years of not lifting/exercising properly) and a desk job saw me climb to 20 stone where I was pretty damn fat but not horrendous.

Was a tipping point for me though, always told myself I'd never hit 20 stone. Hardest thing for me is having gone from being a student with loads of free time to working 50 hours a week, finding the time/mental energy to exercise properly is SO much harder.

Have managed to adapt and force myself to the gym in the evenings, whilst also picking basketball back up again. Helped me back down to 19 stone but no where near as quick as I'd like. The slog continues!

Nice work to everyone here. I need to really think hard about adapting my training more to bring my weight down a bit quicker. I also slack off too much at the moment. Odd sessions here and there add up quickly!

It does get easier though, you sort of break its back and it gets enjoyable / easy.

Just as an edit did 6 miles earlier weigh in at 109.5kg so 3lbs off this week. Topped it off with pizza and salad and didn't give a monkey's cause the whole meal was only 700 calories and the run was -1100

Always found exercise enjoyable, the same care free 'not thinking of problems' state if mind I got walking up a mountain seems to be the same as hitting the machines at the gym.

Always enjoy it most if I push myself - just like I do on the mountains.

30th week weigh in:

Last Sunday - 15st 12lb
This Sunday - 15st 11lb

1lb loss

Looks like 1lb a week is my usual now which I'm happy with as I'm doing Stronglifts.

(Total loss since September '11 - 10st 2lb )

I usually avoid this sort of thread but I'm feeling pretty chuffed with myself so thought I'd make a post.

After hitting 22 stone (Over eating for a myriad of reasons, but still no excuse), I've reached 15 stone 9 pounds just under 100kg.

Sadly I can't do much exercise beyond walking due to a neck injury I picked up playing rugby 4-5 years ago, so this has mostly been from diet. Once you get used to it and just eat what you like in moderation rather than going mad over analysing everything... it does get steadily easier.

At 6 ft 2 and being very broad shouldered (I was a prop), I'm not sure how much further I will go, but I'll just keep eating as I am and see where I end up.

To the rest of you, good luck and such!

I remember getting it a couple times when I first started my cardio regime but soon went after I worked myself in gradually. I put mine down to not having done such exercise in a while.. unfit.

If you've just started your exercising I'd just take it easy and then pick it up when you can feel like you're able to. Best of luck :)

Exercise induced nausea is a feeling of sickness or vomiting which can occur shortly after exercise has stopped as well as during exercise itself. It may be a symptom of either over exertion during exercise, or from too abruptly ending an exercise session. People engaged in high intensity exercise such as aerobics and bicycling have reported suffering from exercise induced nausea. A study of 20 volunteers conducted at Nagoya University, Japan associated a higher degree of exercise induced nausea after eating. It has been suggested that exercise induced nausea could be caused by increased endorphin levels, which are released while exercising. Endorphins have been associated with nausea and vomiting, so this theory is plausible, but unsupported by evidence.

Another possible cause of exercise induced nausea is water logging, another word for overhydration. Drinking too much water before, during, and/or after exercise (or at any time) can cause nausea, diarrhea, confusion, and muscle tremors. If the overhydration is significant enough, it can be fatal. Excessive water consumption reduces or dilutes electrolyte levels in the body. It is encouraged to control your level of water intake when working out, and also to eat salty snacks when you have consumed too much water (sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium are electrolytes).

14st9.5

I'll round that down to 14st9 :P I hope to get out on the bike a bit more in the next 5 days while the Mrs is away. Get some shed for the weekend, as it's likely to be boozy.

Pleased though, I'm a couple of lbs off 1.5st so far. Nearly half way!

Total loss is now 70lbs / 5stone. Tbh cant really believe I've lost 5 stone. 108kg with only 13kg left to go.

Weekly loss is 1.5Kg / 3.3lbs. scales read 106 last night but I had just come back from doing a 10k run lol. I love running, you can eat like a pig and I was starving so ate a load of wholemeal pasta till I could eat no more :D

First off congratulations for those that have lost weight. I started off at 14st5 at Christmas, I'm now down to 12st5. It feels good having lost 2 stone :). Anyway I'm about 5ft9 and haven't been under 13st since I high school really. I'm just wondering does anyone know what a good weight for someone 5ft9 would be? I'm guessing around 11st. On a different point, how have your bellies changed since you guys started loosing weight, theres little change in mine, still a lot of fat there its like a spare tyre :o.

Nice! That's some massive loss! The 7yr old weighs like 3st4 and he's a weight to lift now, imagine carting that around daily and the effort it take?!? Ooof

Indeed, when I started running in April I was carting it round daily and running with it. Might stick a 70lbs sack on my back and go for a run :p

Belly wise, still obviously some there, doubt it will go completely tbh, this is my second time "down" having done it once (12 stone loss last time though) and then drifted back to being over weight when I got married. It didn't completely go then either but I'm 6ft 2 and broad so it never really bothered me that much.

All that aside, things are different this time, last time I did it my making my self ill in the head and starving myself for a long time. This time its different, ive done it through lifestyle change and I can honestly say its been so much easier this time round and I'm a lot older than I was back then (38 now). Never again!

Usual 1lb loss :p

I'm hoping someone here may know enough to give me some advice, but for the last week or so I've started a better diet and exercise to lose some weight and one of my main concerns is that I want to lose quite a bit of weight (I'm just under 18st now, and have lost about 2 to 3 lb over the last week) and want to try minimize any lose skin as that is a concern for me when trying to get down to at least 14st. So any advice on how to minimize it before I start getting to far in (if that is even possible) or how to make it less noticeable would be great.

Lose it slowly, eat a nutritious diet, stay hydrated, keep fit.

The creams with pregnant women on the front can't hurt either I'm sure but I'd question if you needed them.

Remember, just 1lb a week is a stone every quarter - how long did it take you to put the weight on?
