2012 Weight Loss Thread

I reckon those scales are a bit suspect. I'd really question whether you have lost 3% body fat but are basically the same weight. That's basically saying you built a couple of kilos of muscle in less than 2 weeks

Negative, in this time period I have started taking creatine, so the difference will probably be water weight.

Good on you for committing to it but measuring BF is notoriously unreliable especially when you're at the higher ranges. If you've lost 3% body fat, that's ~2.5kg of fat in 12 days, so about 200g/day or 1800 calories/day which when you think about it, is very unlikely.

I'm not saying this to knock you down, I tried measuring BF and got initial encouraging (but in hindsight incorrect) results but it didn't last even though I was losing weight steadily. I switched to measuring chest, waist, arms, etc instead which gives a more accurate overview of where your shape is changing. Photos are also a great way to see changes and sometimes underrated in favour of raw numbers, try taking a photo every week in the same place and after a month have a look back at the first one :)

My point isn't so much about the loss of fat per se but his graph "shows" that he has done this at the same time as building a similar amount of muscle. Not likely. The type of scales that he using are pretty notorious for being inaccurate and easily skewed by how hydrated you are at the time of measurement. Good on him for starting to do something about his weight though.

8st 4lbs in total, that's outstanding.

What have you been doing? What's been the biggest change you have made to help you lose the weight?

Thanks mate.

Just a complete life style change, exercising 6 times a week followed by a diet that is nothing special bar low sugar intake and just learning what is in the things I eat.

I just really really want to do it so I've not lapsed at all.

Thanks Rossi, what I have been doing is the following:

Rowing, cycling, jogging (started off as walking), sit ups, cross trainer, light weights with high frequency.

Rowing for example I will swap between doing 5 sets of 2minute bursts with a 2 minute rest in between trying to maintain a 500m for each set and then on a different day I will do 2000m in 1 stint but at a much slower pace so I try to mix up a bit of endurance and short bursts with all my exercises. I think its been working well so far due to me mixing up my cardio quite often so I don't get too used to it.

Exercise with weights I have just been doing basic things like lunges and a few basic kettle bell exercises.

Now that I am down to a better weight I have started to included more weights in my regime, 3 days a week with a burst of cardio at the start and finish. The other days I do purely cardio.

Hope that helps a bit.

Edit, to give an example here is what I did today (Tuesday is all cardio for me)

I stretch at home.
5 minute brisk walk to the gym.
20 sit ups x 5
20 minute cross trainer, level 6 intensity with 4x 1minute bursts of 7 intensity at the 4, 9,14 and 19 minute marks.
20 minute cycle following the same format as above.
1 minute walk followed by a 2 minute run x3 (running has only really been a recent thing due to my previous weight so I am introducing this more and more)
Another stretch
5 minute brisk walk back home.

Hello again,
Firstly congratulations everyone for your weight loss already! keep it up!

Now, having seen how well everyone is doing it has made me really want to get back on the wagon so to speak as i posted a while ago here and had some great help but being 17, house parties/clubbing/football and so on have stalled me massively!

So now i am looking to get back on it because i really want to be a lot "fitter" for summer (if we get any :p)

http://i43.tinypic.com/ojh6v5.png that was the diet/workout i did for my first week and i have followed it on and off :( since then and have lost 3lb :(

Can anyone suggest any improvements to that diet/exercise to help this fat loss a little quicker?

Thanks

my weight shot up to 18 stone 6 pounds at my heaviest after being off work for 6 months after an op.then i was of a further 6 months after a second op.back to work now and on a low carb diet.no bread, pasta, rice, sweet stuff,no fruit except berries.loads of meat fish eggs, cheese, veggies but no peas, carrots, sweetcorn.i've lost 2 stone so far in 3 months

My target is 13 stone 10 Lbs by end of July. If i can reach that I would have lost 2 stone in approx 6 months or so. Another 6 Lbs to go!

Bit of a back story:
I'm 54, always been overweight but I've always been quite fit.
Anyway earlier this year I had a diabetes wake up call where I woke up one morning, couldn't read a word on my monitor, went to the GP, got tested and my blood sugars had doubled.
I'd needed this scare and immediately went on the Slimming World diet that my daughter had lost 3 stone on.
My other problem being that my calorie burning rate is 1200 a day compared to an average of around 2200 cals (this was tested in Cambridge in the mid 90s).
After a week my eyesight returned and you could see a visible sign that my tummy had gone down a bit.
After a month it had gone down a lot more so I built up my running which was 5K in a tad under 30 minutes.
Within a couple of weeks I had gone from say 29 mins 50 seconds to 20 mins 52 secs (PB) and I can easily now be under 23 minutes comfortably.
I NEVER do weight so it's pointless asking because I believe visuals are more important and of course fat turns to muscle which is heavier.

Anyway I've still got a bit to go but last night at my gig dozens of people were stopping to congratulate me.
