2013/14 Pre-season Friendly Thread

25 mins I think? Aside from a dodgy dive he played really well. I think he ran past people and crossed more in that game than Valencia did last season :p So refreshing to have a right winger that doesn't just look scared and give the ball to Rafael.

The derping man managing to post worse crap in match threads than me as usual, impressive, at least eaycg the game u spoon

Brentford narrowly beaten by Spurs in pre-season friendly

For the 2nd season in a row, Brentford played a hard-fought battle against a strong Tottenham team losing 3-2 in a behind-closed-doors match played at the Tottenham training ground.
Spurs fielded a strong side against the Bees which is a testament to how they viewed the opposition.
Spurs went 1.0 up through a Gareth Bale goal but Bees fought back with goals from the new boys – a long range strike from Alan McCormack and a penalty from Will Grigg who’s initial shot was hand balled by Caulker. Brentford went into half-time 2.1 to the good.
Spurs threw on Jermaine Defoe at half time and looked much more potent up front – with Defoe scoring a brace.
Information on this game is pretty sketchy but we will fill in with more news as and when we get it.
Spurs 1st half team: Friedel, Naughton, Dawson, Caulker, Rose; Mason, Huddlestone, Bentaleb; Lennon Bale Obika
Spurs 2nd half team: Archer, Smith, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Stewart; Parker, Carroll, Sigurdsson; Townsend Defoe Ceballos
Thanks to our man in the Spuds camp Milts for the match tip-off
If this match is anything to go by, Brentford should certainly give Celtic a run for their money on Saturday 20th. Tickets are still available by the way.

glad kaboul played. looks like manu is as good as gone (yay) would like to see more of carroll this season, looks very promising.

The whole point of going to asia to play friendlies is surely for us to go out there and show some pomp and match our brand profile, not canter to a 1-0 loss, where in the reports I read it said we barely looked like scoring, barring Zaha's shot.

As for the humidity, it doesn't exactly sound like we dominated for 60 minutes and faltered because of the heat either. Just a bit of a damp squib performance.

United's disjointed evening was summed up near the end when the misfiring Danny Welbeck produced a shot that wobbled past Narit Taweekul's right post as the striker fell over.

What always surprises me is that 2 months apart from each other and they forget how to play together :p.

That said, Moyes has them running double days to get them fit. Last season we weren't. So that's the priority at the moment.

Moyes has already said Welbeck has impressed him.

To be fair though he isn't going to give him a roasting in public. I am sure that some parts of his game did impress him. Suffice to say, he certainly lacked composure yesterday

From memory he was impressed with his work rate in training and elements of his game but that he definitely needed to help him add to that goal tally and in front of goal etc, not that he was just impressed with him overall as some wonderkid or whatever.

Austria Vienna 1-0 Everton... no idea who scored for them but it all come from Jags trying to pass across the back and the guy nicked it from in front of Osman, ran through and round Robles to score. Jags passed it out of play from about 5 yards away from Baines a few minutes a go. Now we know why he always hoofed it.

And they nearly scored again latching onto a loose pass and a really high line from the defence but Robles made a good save.
