*** 2014/15 Pre-season Friendly Thread ***

I have to admit that the game last night bored me to sleep in the second half, but that was more down to Inter's plan of "without possession, put 10/11 men behind the ball - with possession, try the diagonal ball to d'ambrosio".

It's just so refreshing to see us trying to play good football again. It was the hardest part of The Moyes Disaster to explain to outsiders.

Exactly, Moyes played god awful football and didn't win. I was pretty bored in the final years of Fergies reign as well because he didn't play particularly exciting football either but at least winning made that much better.

If we can do both I would be a super happy bunny. If we can play with style and flair and get into the top 4 I will be very happy as well.

Whats the betting Real will start with Ronaldo and a few other stars on Sat just to win a game...and knock Utd out, even though they are already out of the final.

It should be a good game anyway, but dont expect Utd to get anything out of it - really not fussed about not facing City or who-ever in Group B in the Final (could end up being far too competitive if it is another EPL team in the final).

Wouldnt be surprised at all to see Roma beat Inter on Sat which means Utd would need to beat Real (either outright or on pens) to get to the final. Im not sure what happens if two teams end up on the same points

Inter have good defending but that's about it they had 1 shot on target at the 88th min Roma looked much better than Inter did
I read the same thing after I did that post.

I don't consider Inter to be anything special, but they drew to a team we lost against so I was asking some questions.

Inter played defensive it seems, and you can get lucky a few times like that but not always. I think that if it wasn't a friendly, Man U would have given an extra push to get the goal.

If teams come draw on points, first they check the direct encounter then the goal difference (so if Roma beat Untied and United lose on pens to Real, both teams wiuld have 6 points but United will qualify).

Winner of the tournament gets $1M, which ain't bad tbh!

Chelsea team for Vitesse Arnhem: Cech (c); Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Cahill, Luis, Van Ginkel, Fabregas, Matic, Salah, Costa, Torres

Subs: Beeney, Zouma, Terry, Chalobah, Ake, Romeu, Baker, Boga, Solanke

The Keita/Pepe thing is apparently Keita accused him of racially abusing him in 2011. Then last night in the pregame stuff(handshakes/etc) it's a bit unclear when/what, but Keita apparently refused to shake his hand, and then an official says Pepe spat at Keita, who then threw his water bottle at Pepe.

Pepe being his usual lovely self, non hand shake, appropriate response is to spit at that person.

Pepe had called Kaita a monkey.
Pepe sisn't want to shake hands (both of them kind of pulled back)
Pepe spat
Keita threw him water (as far as I can tell) not a bottle of water.

Nice... Edging closer to a representative first-team side :) Just need Hazard, Oscar and Willian/Schurrle back now.

Odd formation though... Costa and Torres both starting? Playing with two up-front from the start is very un-Chelsea like... Perhaps Mourinho is testing Torres in a deeper role? That could be interesting.

Will be good to see more of Van Ginkel. Such a shame he missed practically all of last season.

Van Ginkel needs to calm down a bit, have you seen the tackles he's been throwing in?:p
I didn't realise he was with VA for 10 years or so too, he seems too young for that :o

Wenger making one of the biggest mistakes of his career not bringing Cesc back to Arsenal. Sell Ozil or Santi, buy Cesc, massive improvement in the team, massive :(

Even more so, when you consider Fabregas has been playing deeper in midfield, and so far seems very adept at it. He could probably have taken Ramsey's spot? He's the more advanced of your central midfield pair isn't he?
