2019 NFL Season Thread

I went to bed after the second sack on Allen last night... and only just realised that didn't end the game! Just watched the highlights... Mind you, I could barely keep my eyes open, so I think I would have gone to bed at overtime anyway.

I stayed up until the end of the Pats game, I'm completely goosed and regretting it now :p

At the time though two awesome games, both were really close, either team could have won with some great performances and plenty of drama.

In my opinion the best two teams won on the night and probably on the season (we all know the Pats got a cakewalk schedule and were never as good as their record suggested) so we should be getting the best NFC finals we could hope for.

Took the Saints tonight and also fancy the Eagles to steal it, both teams are banged up and I'm thinking the eagles momentum over the last four games might carry them through.

Pats will be interesting now, really not sure what's comes next for them especially when you see next season's fixtures for them they will be lucky to see 8/8 without major surgery and I don't think they have the flexibility in personnel or picks to be so drastic. Of I was Kraft I would burn it to the ground this off season, get rid of most the older players still with value for draft capital this and next season then be ready to go again '21. That would be without Bill and Brady but I think if they persist one more year with the duo they will spend a good decade in the wilderness. Amazing franchise in terms of what they achieved but I'm looking forward to them not being THE team for at least a decade, let others shine.

To be fair, they can only play/beat who's lined up in front of them each Sunday. There is almost no way they wouldn't have made the playoffs with someone else's schedule.

I think both games today are tough to call. I would lean towards Saints and Seahawks, but wouldn't be surprised if it's not. Well, the Vikings would surprise me a little if they win I guess.

I don't really know why they bother having reviews of pass interference if they're not actually going to change the call if they can see interference. The TD catch for the Vikings in OT had a pretty clear push off... but you knew they wouldn't change anything...

I think they just like winding the Saints up :p

Eagles and Seahawks game was a chore tonight, seemed to last forever and nothing really happened. Will struggle in the Packers/Seahawks game as I think both teams suck.

awful showing from the saints last night, and have to admit i did have little laugh when the call at the end didn't get called :D.

not sure about the none call on clowney with the tackle on wentz that put him out, or the excuse that wentz was a runner and didn't give himself up as clowney came from behind and went helmet to helmet.

I didn't really see anything wrong with the Wentz stuff, thought it was just an unfortunate part of the game and it ruined the game completely.

Not really the last 8 I expected but should be some good games, really looking forward to the AFC match ups, not so much the NFC.

As a Packers fan this matchup is nightmare fuel. Id be surprised if we win this one.

Vikings vs 49ers though is going to be epic.

Might be a bit biased but i think the niners will smash the vikings. Kirk cousins cant handle pressure, and the niner D line is a monster.

Kyle shanahan knows cousins like the back of his hand.

fingers crossed this is true, then mcvay just needs to up his game:

Wade Phillips' time in Los Angeles has come to an end.

didn't see any of the games just gone, but just caught a video on youtube of the titans trolling
Belichick with the delay of game penalty trick that the pats used during the season, best to say Bill wasn't happy :D

BlueMerle, you seeing Mccarthy as an upgrade ?

I agree it was a dirty play and he should have been ejected not sure why any ref didn't flag it etc

They spoke after the game and said it wasn't flagged as wentz was considered a runner and hadn't given himself up, if it had been from the front i would expect that to be flagged let alone from behind, especially when you consider they flag for blocking in the back

regarding their statement, Wentz was already going down

I agree re the Clowney hit, it was so unnecessary considering Wentz was going to the ground and Clowney obviously lowered his head and hit him with the crown of the helmet. Considering the increased attention and effort surrounding the concussion protocol and protecting players from late or dirty hits, I'm really surprised the officials didn't call Clowney up on it.

On another note, do people think Brady might be done? I don't mean, do you think he's retiring or moving to another team (though neither of those are out of the question), but do you think he's actually past it now? I know this was asked back in 2014 after the Chiefs hammered the Patriots, but this year he's really seemed to dip in production. I read an article on ESPN that said he was ranked 24th out of all QBs and that several key stats were even lower than that. His QB rating was very poor by his standards and I believe was below the league average, and he threw as many red zone INTs this season as he had done in the previous three seasons combined. I know the offence has been poor generally, but this isn't the first season where New England have been short on weapons and previously he's always been able to overcome that, this year it looked like age might finally be catching up with him.

i think the pats had a combination of issues linked via their lack of people brady has had a lot of practice time with and his accuracy etc not being as sharp as it has been.

while they have been short of weapons they've usually had someone he could trust.

i can't imagine him going to another team, but i can't imagine him being happy to be kept on at the pats to help train his replacement.

from an interview given by the ref :

referee Shawn Smith’s explanation, per a pool report:

He was a runner and he did not give himself up. We saw incidental helmet contact, and in our judgement, we didn’t rule that to be a foul.
