The NHS is certainly flawed, but as a general rule, if you need urgent critical care, you will get it, and to a pretty high standard. It's certainly not a pointless system at all.

The GP side of things needs reviewing though.
Exactly this, my dad was in hospital for a month with really bad covid. In most other countries this would have resulted in him either being dead, or bankrupt.

And what about the people who can't afford the cost of private care? Again, see my previous post on turning us into the US. Where a high proportion of the population go bankrupt from injuries, and have to set up GoFundMe pages to afford their treatments, which is then effectively socialised/"free" medical care anyway?

I can't stand the selfish views - good for you that you're in a position to afford private healthcare, but most people aren't. I was surprised to learn last week that if you earn over £40k you're in the top 25% of earners in the country. £40k isn't a particularly high salary these days, and 75% of the country earn less than that.
Its not perfect no but at the end of the day, you cannot blame people for being ****** about the amount fo tax they pay and show little to no benefit from it.

End of the day, people will look after themselves and there loved ones and if they can pay for private care, they will and thats where we are heading like it or not.

Its a cruel world and no gov etc seem to give a **** mate. Blame the gov AND the people who spout crap saying "ahh but voting for somene otehr than tories/labour is a wasted vote" BLAME those people who constantly vote for labour or tories and then moan and moan about them!!!

We deserve this. We voted Torie multiple times and we voted to leave the EU. people need to stop crying and face the music .

Were in this mess because we voted for this mess...

And the only way out for some of this mess is to privatise it and like it or not, thats where we heading unless you, me and every poster here stops voting for the tores and labour and vote to enter the EU single market again and free movement

/rant over

Yea when its mostly too late....

Whats funny is there is various people who could have avoided being in critical care had they have been seen sooner, not wait 6 months for a scan etc....

That is entirely on the Tories for the past 12 years of economic mismanagement.

Don't be angry at paying tax. Be angry at the Tories for wasting it.

I know this is popular opinion. But is it true?

I know a few who worked in the NHS in all kinds of level(heck even i use to work for them) and the miss management is beyond stupid.

Its shocking all round and basically TDLR, I WANT MY TAX MONEY TO ACTUALLY REFLECT AND IMPROVE THE CURRENT **** SHOW SERVICES WE HAVE NOW!!!

But a person fed up of how things are cannot force you, me and everyone in teh uk to stop voting for them... So the next thing they control is how they pay tax's...

Some people are desperate and had enough of this ****

ITT - people who pay lots of tax, who take home lots of money moaning they are hard done whilst people can’t afford to heat or eat…
Take a step back and get some perspective. If you pay lots of tax, you have lots of money. There’s no two ways about it!
Taxation pays for lots of things, and if you are paying such high amounts it’s likely you don’t see what it is being used on. Instead of thinking you are hard done by because of this, be thankful you don’t need the help and services our taxes pay for and give a lifeline to the vulnerable in our society.

this is true, I have no issues paying more NI or the 45% rate (as much as it pains me to see nearly half my bonus get raped by the taxman every year), however it hacks me off that it's just used to grease the palms of Tory donors, rather than actually improve services. The PPE bungs pretty much gave us a snapshot of how this government does all it's business.

Whereas I, someone who has been paying taxes for 20 years, and made use of the police once, and the NHS twice, am still happy for my taxes to be going to help the greater good and not force people to have medical insurance or die.

I grew up in South Africa, which follows pretty similar medical insurance structures to the US, and it is awful.

Its not about being hard done.

Its about paying lots for a service that well doesnt offer the service when needed unless you are about to die....

So actually, yea, rich folks are indeed geting "hard done" by the NHS, the public schools that they have there kids on, the crimerate due to policemen not being around etc. Yea hard done by for sure.

Just because a rich folk can pay the heating and lights, they certainly cant see a doctor within a few days or stop someome mugging them on the streets, or breaking into there house, or seeinga teenager being stabbed in there street.

Yea mate hard done by comes in all forms. not just heating...

THIS THIS AND THIS!!!

this is my point all. I am not promoting for people here to dodge tax's.
I am basically saying what this poster above is saying!!!

It isn't just wasting though. It's been this way for many years (not just the Tories)

There is many measures we could introduce to help drive wastage before it hits say A&E, NHS etc. However, people will likely moan they are controversial.

We actually all need to pay more tax to meet demand, again controversial to most.

You need to step away from the news sir, you make it sound like all those horrible things are happening everywhere, every day.

Then we must stop voting for tories and labour then or else we WILL end up oth the US/ South Africa.

Yea i think i need to. I am soo damm ****** mate today. all this news and ****. Its why i kind of always take a half a year or more out of following the news

The problem is with your POV here, is that that you're expecting a huge organisation not to behave like a huge organisation. Yes, there is mismanagement, but there is in every huge organisation, that comes part and parcel of being a huge organisation. There's no evidence that the NHS has a particular problem with it. It is in fact, when compared to other organisations of the same size, the NHS is particularly efficient in lots of ways.

So, essentially, unless you actually want to shut the NHS down, I suggest you make peace with the mismanagement and accept it for what it is... the consequence of it being what it is - a large organisation.

Agreed. If they had got rid of the personal allowance removal rather than the 45% tax rate, it would have been a much better idea. Rumour has it that is exactly what he planned to do in the full budget next month. He might decide not to after the 45% rate problem!

yup, would've made a difference to far far more people, and doesn't give exponentially more money to the REALLY high earners, just a fixed amount (which is almost exactly £5k) once you get over that 125k salary. 45 rate scrapping saved the super high earners potentially tens/hundreds of thousands

If I understand the bottom two correctly then, they will kill investments in this country faster that Kwasi did. I like the rest though.
I get the challenge, would be willing to concede on divis but I think marginal rates for corporation tax are overdue. Either progressive taxation works or it doesn't, so bifurcating the approach for personal tax and corporation tax seems illogical to me. Also, if higher tax = less investment, reducing the rate to 19% hasn't exactly seen an influx :).
