no, its a 29", size is measured diagonally. You might mean it has a similar height to a 16:9 23" screen, in which case you'd be right, but it's also 6.7" wider than a 23" 16:9 screen and it has 33% more screen area (physical, not desktop space).


Yeah but some monitors got diff stands meaning they're closer to your face than other monitors.

I know it is 29, but its more like a 23" really, you dont really use the extra width on such a small monitor, so its more like a 23" in my book.

Well the pixel density is equivalent to a 23" 16:9 model and so is the physical height. Saying that you 'don't really use the extra width' is a ridiculous statement, however. You gain extra horizontal pixels and physical space which are there to use as you please, be it through improved FOV on a game or extra stuff on the desktop.

I wouldnt trade a 24" for a 29".
The screen is so small its barely an improvement over regular 24".

The height is lower and things seem more cramped.

Sure you got ~500 extra pixels but few people actually use them outside of games, and in games the screen size is just so small its pointless going UW.
Unless you sit Really close, I dont see the point lol.

My XL2411Z is tiny compared to my U2412M which is also 24", but has a minor bump in height.

Whole point of UW imo is to get "wrapped" into the game and thus 34" or larger or bust.

Comparing to 16:10 24" models is a different matter. And of course as far as productivity is concerned you can get 2560 x 1440 or even 3840 x 2160 models of that sort of size which give vastly more real-estate. But saying that it doesn't offer benefits over a 23" 16:9 model in that department is ludicrous.

What is the physical width of a 29"?
And what is the physical width of a 27"?
 
Have you read the first post at all?

29" 2560x1080 wins over 23/24" 1920x1080 every time.

- 691200 more pixels
- 21.9 so you get considerably more FOV in games
- more space for work/browsers side by side
- 21.9 films take up the full screen which is far larger than a 16.9 23/24" screen

Not everyone has the space for 34", or has the gpu power for 3440x1440 or has the money to splash out on a 34" 1440 monitor.
 
Id pick a 27" over a 29" UW if I had a 23" and was looking to upgrade

Difference is just 2 inches and you get 1440p rather than 1080.

Well that's fair enough, I'm sure many people would. But there are benefits of each option and a 27" 2560 x 1440 model is very different to the 23" 1920 x 1080 model being referred to initially.
