Should be 5 years too like their other 34" monitors.

Personally I'm now put of by VA, at least the current panels as it seems like banding etc. is more of an issue:

I like my deep blacks and high contrast ratio but I hate banding! :(

That banding on the omen looks terrible! Is it really that bad in real life? I'm assuming the 35" AOC also suffers from that as it uses the same panel.

No idea as not seen the 2 side by side in real life but going by past VA screens, most likely.

However, I think it is largely down to various factors:

- calibration, generally the more accurate the display, the more likely it is to show any gradient banding especially if it is present in the source material (for films, madvr with MPC has debanding algorithms to sort out any banding that is present in the source)
- VA has considerably better blacks and contrast ratio + not as significant glow as IPS so IPS glow with the poor contrast ratio + poor blacks somewhat masks banding issues

If the guy who took that photo really wanted to show a "fair" comparison, he should have used this test:

As for all we know, that game could just have some bad banding.... Either that or he has got awful calibration for both....

Tried to play StarCraft II expansion again last night and it was just too annoying with black bars on the side so I watched a cutscene compilation on YouTube lol, never need to complete it now :P

Can't believe that even four damn years later Blizzard still haven't fixed this, it's their last game without 21:9 support and the first one we started complaining about lol.

You got any 6400*1080? (2560 flanked by a pair of 1920).

The Asus is more tarty, and is 100hz out of the box. The Acer is 60Hz with the built in option of overclocking up to 100Hz. Very easy to do so I don't know why anyone wouldn't.

Beware though, the acer in particular has a panel lottery that seems to be biting people more atm. I've just had to send mine back after only a week as the backlight bleed and glow were horrific. Replacement has been sent out today.

The asus isn't native 100HZ, it is still overclocked from 60HZ to 100HZ.

ASUS isn't really any better for QC/backlight bleed either.

Oh really? My bad, thought the Acer was the only one out of the two to 'require' an overclock, my bad.

I chose the X34A as it was cheaper and I pretty much preferred the subtler look. The only practical advantage of the Asus Rog was the OSD buttons but I got used to the X34A's quite quickly. I used a TV for the last 6 years or more so I'm not used to any OSD buttons at all as I had a remote to change all the settings with.

Yup, same steps/selection as what you have to do with the acer via the monitor OSD.

Can't recall of what luck people are having with actually achieving the 100HZ without any of the flickering, scanlines or/and coil whine issues though, however, I "think" the asus fairs a bit better for this...

The only "native" 100HZ native 34" 1440 displays are the latest VA screens i.e. the aoc agon, HP omen, asus and samsung displays.

Interesting. Can't say I noticed any flickering or lines etc on mine, but who knows what the replacement will bring when it arrives tomorrow hopefully.

Don't know why manufacturers are pushing for an even wider format... Utterly stupid imo.

I think both have them to some extent (the scanline issues) especially under certain conditions, some are worse than others though. If you don't notice it in normal usage, don't go looking for it otherwise it will bug you in normal usage too! :p

Wow that guy's voice is annoying! Haha I won't go looking, don't worry.

Screen was picked up by DPD on Monday, and I've just received the replacement today. Can't complain with that. Will see if this panel is better tonight.
