***21.9 Ultrawide Thread***

Look around at the different threads and user reviews on this model, its had a lot of problems with free sync causing flickering, and its a hardware problem that can't be fixed with a driver update, do some research before you commit!
Yup it's got it's fair share of issues unfortunately Matt, def do some research before jumping. Isn't their a 100Hz Phillips model too that Hexus 'reviewed' lately?

I saw those, but apparently it was fixed by installing the monitor driver, after that FreeSync no longer flickered when using Ultimae Engine?

Can anyone verify that? Heard it from a few sources now.

I have, running it on a 1080ti though so the Freesync is irrelvant (tbh no game I play (Dota 2, BF1 etc) falls below 100 frames so not an issue.

I love the format, I was worried it would be too big for online gaming putting you at a disadvantage, but I do think that is true. If you are sensitive to resolution though (which I kind of am) you will see the decrease from 4k down, offset by the 100hz which is why I choose it.

Overall the screen is pretty, but I find it disapointing when compared to my Panasonic TX58DX902b for picture quality (albeit twice the price). But the things that annoy me on it (black levels and DPI) you can't get better for in a monitor without spending £3.5k.

I can't compare this to the same VA panel without quantom dot, colours seem decent, not as great as your best IPS screens, but blacks are definitely better than those, which matter to me more.

I should note that the Freesync reviews of this are not fabulous from what I read, issue with lower framerates and flashing or something. Again not relevant for me being on the nVidia side of the fence.

Thanks for the feedback Jeff.

I'm pretty sure those FreeSync issues were fixed by installing the monitor INF driver. I'll do some digging internally to see what i can find out, but i was hoping someone was using the panel with FreeSync to confirm.

Is there any upcoming Ultrawides this year supporting Gsync? (Excluding the mythical x34p). I was a little disappointed to hear nothing on further Ultrawides at CES, I took the plunge on x34a but a pixel went a day after using it and the eclipse like IPS glow was too much for me, especially after owning a Dell IPS which has...none.

Matt,
I had the monitor for a few months, but the bottom bezel snapped and when I returned it, it could not be fixed, so I got a refund. I have decided to wait for Vega before I consider buying it again. This monitor needs Vega because only Ultimate really works and this means the GPU(I have a R9 290) effects the experience for gaming. Some games like WOW, Aliens Isolation and SWBF were brilliant and worked well. Others like BF1, Wolfenstine New Blood and Everyones gone to the rapture just could not run the frames or crashed. Overwatch had flicker in static images, but the gameplay was fine.
I had the latest Samsung driver as well, but that did not seem to improve things. One thing I can say for sure is that 21:9 100Hz is great for game immersion, but does not make you better at shooters!

Thanks for the feedback. Do you know which Firmware version your display had?

I'm now holding off on the purchase until i can do some more research. Argh, what a bummer.

Acer Predator Z35P looks like the one to go for now, I'm sure OcUK will be listing them soon;

3440x1440 @ 120Hz

Matt,
I never checked the firmware, so cannot say. The Samsung driver was Oct/Nov 2016.
Also be aware that this comes in a massive box, so you better have a large shed or loft access to hold it, if you want to return it.
I would wait until Vega is out and then revisit this.

Just got my AOC AG352UCG 35" 1440p 100hz 21:9 monitor, loving the ultrawide already! so much more screen space, only problem is one stuck pink pixel at the top right :( would this be enough to make others return for replacement? or would 1 stuck pixel not bother you?

Buy it, encounter any problems, return it for being faulty and if said retailer says that its not faulty then CCR it.
Yes that's something to consider, but you know what places can be like about returning monitors etc.

Yes I've seen the unboxing videos, the box is huge!

Yup but they can't deny returns if you are within your 14 days of purchase ;) The only thing some retailers might do is get you to arrange and cover the costs of shipping it back but if you buy from a good site like the rainforest jungle, they "should" cover all of that....

Currently the side of my bed is a giant box. Need to visit the inlaws to store it!

No way I am throwing it, if we move need the thing to I need it to transport it. The idea of wrecking a £800 monitor fills me with sorrow.

The AOG box I got today is enormous too, luckily there's room under the stairs.. loving ultrawide so far, far outweighs the drop down to 100hz from 144hz from a 16:9 monitor, don't think I could go back to a smaller monitor now!
