***21.9 Ultrawide Thread***

I have the same PPI with my current screen and I'm not bothered. And I'm after that 100 fps :)

I'm worried about smearing/ghosting and loss of definition in games, though. I wouldn't want to find the monitor ok with FC Primal and then realise in 2 months time that it looks rubbish with some other games. Any ideas what games I could try?

yeah see i went from a 27" 1080p screen to a 29" 21:9 and i would never go back to that PPI :)

cs:go, or anything fast twitch. and alien resurrection if you want to test its blank performance.

I'd be forever disappointed when not gaming if I'd bought a 2560x1080 34". I'd sooner buy the 3440x1440 panel and run it non-native in game.

I couldn't deal not running at native res - defeats the point of having a decent gaming rig if everything looks smeared in vaseline - and am not overly fussed about the productivity side of things. Frame rate is king and my home PC is all about gaming. I'm tempted to get the Dell ultrawide for work though.

When cards come out that can run games maxed at 3440*1440 with a minimum of 60fps, and preferably don't cost stupid money, it'll be time to upgrade. I suspect that may be some time away.

Man it feels like I've lost hours and hours doing research and then in the end end up where I started, none the wiser. I'm sure it's like that for all of us just before we consider making a big purchase.

Had a long look at curved panels in my local PC store today. While it does look decent and all that, here in NZ, like back home in the UK, we get bent over on costs. It almost makes me long for the UK prices. It's really a third to double more on price.

At the moment I'm very very strongly leaning towards a AOC U3477PQU as I can get it for a more palatable price. While the X34 and PG34HQ is probably comfortably within budget, I just cannot justify it as I barely have enough time to play games as it is.

Any experience or thoughts on the AOC U3477PQU before I pull the trigger?

I find games I play (MGS:V, AC:Unity, R6:Seige) run smoothly on high settings and rarely dip under 60fps, although some of the current AAA stuff or less optimised might be a problem. I always find they look very nice indeed.

I have the aoc as my side monitor and I think it is an awesome monitor. Mine came a little bit colour saturated, sorta Samsung phone screen like but that is easily fixed if it is an issue for you. Had an issue with my display port and they sent me a replacement monitor the next day after I reported it. The first one was perfect with no blb at all. The second has the tiniest bit in the bottom left that even on a black screen is barely there! The stand is very good quality as well although I use a desk arm to hold it.

Not had other non-curved widescreens to compare but compared to my Samsung curved that I am selling and the x34 that replaces the Samsung the aoc easily holds its own for picture quality & build quality.

Thanks man. Last question if I may. How do you rate it as a gaming monitor?

Not used it much as gaming but the few times I did I had no issues with it. It isn't a super fast gaming TN but for most of us mere.mortals it is more than good enough. Bare in mind it has much the same panel as all the other flat widescreens (ie Dell, lg) so you can hunt through people's thoughts on them for gaming but from memory nobody tends to complain about the monitors for gaming.

It doesn't, though, it's nothing like that bad :p. I already have a 34um95 for work, want a 40" 4k. It never stops!

Mine just arrived. It's massive, as expected :) , but I have to go out soon and will have to set it up later. Full impressions on the way. One thing - it didn't come with a display port cable! Does anyone know if 75hz at this res is possible over hdmi 1.4? An d where can one buy a display port cable on the high street? Bloody annoying.

First world problems :D

with a res of 2560x1080 it is. I use to run an overclocked 29um57 at 75hz over HDMI 1.4 as that was the only input that monitor had. A worthy side note might be that i was also running a nvidia 980ti at the time.

My z35 arrived earlier today and everything is great with all the games I play except Fallout 4. My framerate has gone down to 40 fps for some reason :( And I had to edit the ini file as Fallout 4 doesn't manage 21:9 !?! Are we in 2005?

EDIT: I've sorted it out. You have to unlock vsync in the NVidia drivers. I've literally moved from 40 fps to 70-100 fps. It looks totally great. (off topic: Far Harbor is really, really hazy. Can't see anything in this game, it's almost ridiculous)

Use the Flawless Widescreen tool, slightly easier and it also sort out the *shadow* areas around barter, container boxes and similar stuff. But yeah, would have thought they have support for 21:9 but there is quiet a few games that don't have it natively though, maybe it change soon hopefully. :)

So, after a few hours with my Z35, here are my impressions.

The 100+ fps is totally stunning. (I used to have a 27 inches @60hz)
I wasn't sure I would keep it when I saw how big it was, and I wasn't impressed by the wide and large picture like I thought I would be.
And sadly: I don't see the curve anymore! only after a few hours, I already got used to it, it seems :( Also, in fps/shooters, we look in the centre of the screen a lot. I need to try the Fallout/RPG type. Maybe Mad Max? Soma?

After a while, I started to enjoy it more and more. The colours and contrast, compared to my rather basic 27 inches AOC, make the games look really beautiful.

I suppose I need to find a game I've never played before to experience the immersion a bit more.

Do you notice any blur with the z35? Not sure whether to get the z35 or pay the extra for the x34a.
