***21.9 Ultrawide Thread***

oh man i dont know what's getting in to people lately. This forum is full of people whining that nobody understands them when they're sat there with their fingers in their ears!

The g-sync ones are so expensive though for 3440 x 1440 :(

Does anyone have the XR34? Thoughts, comments... any good?

Very good, only goes up to 75hz though Gsync variant is "up to" 100hz (i.e. not guaranteed as its an overclock on the panel)

Only trouble currently is finding anything fast enough to power it balls out in games. Fury X will handle Fallout 4 on Ultra in vanilla, but start adding graphics intensive mods and the framerates will start to drop. Above about 30-35fps you won't notice it as Freesync is very good but.... Witcher 3 I can't max everything out have to dial some stuff down looks very good still, but yeah. Hopefully Vega will sort that out.

Still if you're on a 780 currently even that will be a massive improvement.

At the end of the day, you questioned what someone else preferred and in a way they are right, it is as simple as this:

Smoothness/motion clarity - 100fps looks better than 50fps

Sharpness/clarity - 3440x1440 looks better than 2560x1080

Surely even you can understand this???

I know for a fact that if playing the likes of CS:GO, BF 4 or any fast paced game, I would much rather have a lower res. display with 100FPS over a higher res display with 50FPS

Again, I invite you to try this out:

Set your refresh to 50HZ and 100HZ and then get back to me telling me which refresh rate/image looks better.

EDIT:

And yes that is my last say on this, just going around in circles now.

EDIT:

Back on topic, just seen this:

Acer Predator Z301C with 30" Curved VA Panel and 200Hz Refresh

Acer have recently announced the release of a new 30" ultra-wide model in their Z1 gaming monitor series. The Predator Z301C model offers a 2560 x 1080 resolution and a curved format (1800R curvature). The VA panel being used supports up to 200Hz refresh rate which we believe to be achieved without the need for overclocking, using one of AU Optronics' new AMVA panels (M300DVR01.0 most likely). Whether the VA panel can offer response times fast enough to make this 200Hz refresh rate practical, and whether you can power a screen with this resolution at that kind of refresh rate reliably is another question of course. NVIDIA G-sync is also provided to support dynamic refresh rates.

In other specs the screen offers a 4ms G2G response time, 3000:1 contrast ratio, 100% sRGB coverage and 178/178 viewing angles. Tilt, height (120mm) and swivel adjustments are expected to be offered from the stand and given the NVIDIA G-sync module we would expect to see DisplayPort and HDMI inputs provided. There are also 2x 7W DTS speakers included. The design looks to be similar to that of the Z35 we have already reviewed.

No word on price or release date yet but we know the expected panel should be in mass production now from AUO. Probably 2 - 3 months we would predict before the screen is released. We will update this news piece if we get any further information from Acer as well

Looks good, hopefully we see a freesync version too...

30" 2560x1080 should be pretty decent, adds just that little bit more height whilst still keeping a decent PPI value

Thanks for answering my question.

Did you read my responding post ? I'm sure you would have seen that I mentioned motion... you did see that and did see my response ?

Why do we have 3440x1440 res ? Also 4k, whats the point ?

I do think you're missing the point here. Badass put it well a few posts up. We're all agreeing, with all else being equal, that a higher res looks better.

Then why did it take you and others 20+ posts of garbage before you listening to what badass said rather than what I said, I was saying the exact same thing.

Well I've just joined the club courtesy of Liquid on the MM. Dell U3415W and OMG it's huge!!

Superb for productivity obviously, especially things like Lightroom. Installed the new GFX to go with it yesterday and been trying some games out and it's a whole new world. Have put it on 1:1 pixel mapping so, for games that don't support native res, I can leave them on 2560x1440 and just get black bars at the sides but I'm surprised how many games do support it and look superb, such as Borderlands 2, Dying Light, DiRT 3, DOOM etc. Crysis 3 looks amazing at full res with all the candy on :D

Post some photos in the desk thread :)

But I'll have to tidy my desk! :(

Despite the size, I'm actually still running multi-monitor - have an old Dell 20" 1680x1050 display to the side as I like to keep some stuff on a separate screen when full-screen gaming, such as Teamspeak, hardware monitors etc.

Congrats :D

Said it many times, nothing really prepares you for the sheer size of these things. Its an awe inspiring sight.

So looking forward to getting my X34A to see what's all the fuss is about for 21.9 gaming:) just wish my 1080 Classified would hurry up(on the same order):(

I just started gaming on my spanking new X34A last weekend as my Asus Strix 1080GTX finally arrived. It is incredible!!
First thing I did was boot Star Citizen on ultra settings in 3440x1440 gloriousness and my god am I in love :D
