***21.9 Ultrawide Thread***

Still loving 21.9 for gaming as well, I was tempted to pack up PC gaming for console but there is no way I could go back to 16.9, it is just so squashed looking in comparison.

Been re-playing batman arkham city and origins lately and it has great 21.9 support out of the box:

Can't wait for a 34" 144HZ VA/OLED freesync monitor to come out!

I'm currently doing the same. I love the way cut scenes slowly extend outwards back to the game play, it really showcases the ultra wide resolution. This monitor is bringing new life to slightly older games.

Magic. :)

I get awful hitching in batman arkham city every now and then, very noticeable when using the glide grappling boost. I have to have physx off otherwise it completely kills my performance.

Arkham origins runs well for me with physx set to normal though (can't go any higher since I am on AMD), however, there are a few areas where FPS drops to 10-20 fps, latest area being at blackgate prison, no idea what causes it as even with physx off, it still happens

Funnily arkham knight even when first released (after I applied some fixes from kaiden) ran far better for me than AC and AO :p

I have the 29um65, more or less the same panel just without freesync and stuck at 60HZ. Check the OP for the 29" LG thread where more people post about their experience (although for the older models like mine)

I find it fine for gaming. I don't have any serious issues with input lag and motion blur/response time wise, it is one of the better 60HZ IPS screens out there for gaming. With that one you linked being 75HZ, input lag should be lower as well as having slightly better motion clarity "overall" and of course freesync being a nice bonus if you have an AMD GPU, iirc the range for that is 40-75hz.

29UM65 here also and love it for gaming. The extra screen real estate makes for some very immersive gaming experiences and most games support it natively these days as well. Games that don't, well, I just won't buy them. Overwatch I'm looking at you. That's how much I like my 21:9.

ah one more question.. Nexus i know you went through a few before you got a good one.. Misschief how about you? Did you get a good one first time?

No issues with mine, I'm happy with it. Some IPS glow but with the screen size it's almost expected that there will be some. As long as it disappears if you look at it straight on it is fine. I had a picture somewhere but can't find it on my imgur account.

Ok, I did have a minor problem with a small section at the bottom of the screen showing some brightness on a completely dark screen. It wasn't noticeable when doing anything but looking at a black screen and faded considerably in a few days and continued to do so to the point where it's hardly visible now. You can just see it in this picture.

I could never, ever see it in game or in windows and as it was my only monitor I didn't bother sending it back as apart from that there was little backlight bleed so I didn't want to get a 'worse' one.

alright.. a left field question here.. any chance at all i could use my existing Dell stand with the LG monitor? I like the height adjust on that one specifically.

No, as the Dell stands attach using a quick-release bracket specific for Dell monitors. You can however attach it to a VESA compatible stand or mount.

I've never been one to go all in on screens, but I havent updated my monitor in about 6 years, it's a pretty bog standard 21.5" HP monitor that I bought when I first built my system. I have my heart set on 21:9 now, and I've pretty much settled on an LG 29UM68 down to the price and Freesync. Are there any upcoming monitors that would be in line to compete with something like this on the lower end, or at the very least drop the price of the UM68? I wont be jumping in for a few months at least, having just thrown money at a new GPU my girlfriend would crucify me if she came over to my place and saw a fancy new monitor :D

I went to see it on the high street yesterday and it does look great, so i will probably be getting one. Just need to sort out a mount or stand as well as i really don't like the one it's supplied with.

I've just got back from 'the high street' now and have much the same feeling about the stand of the LG 29UM68. The screen wobbled about a lot with a gentle nudge to its shelf. Keen to hear of any solutions for this.

Wasn't able to see the screen in action in the end. It didn't like any of the HDMI signals/cables we plugged it in to. Anyone else experienced this?

Other than wobbling and not working, it looked good. ;)

Well think I am going for this format. 34"for the higher resolution.

Just need to choose AOC, LG or Iiyama... and which retailer.

Any experience of the 3 and which is better to go for. I think they all use the same screens...

Think best solution for sorting the stand out is buying a VESA compatible stand. It's the only thing giving me pause at the moment... as it's another expense :/

Hmmm... that's very helpful, thank you. I've only ever thought of VESA in terms of wall mounting. That makes quite a difference to my decision, because I can give it a try as is and if it really needs a better stand I can sort that out later on.

Now there is only the trepidation of:
1) Being a long term purchase, am I going too cheap/small/low-res?
2) The deadpixel/leakage/glow lottery.
