***21.9 Ultrawide Thread***

Thanks for the replies

as you said, you can always wait forever for the next big thing, but that means that you'll never get anything. There is a panel very similar to the Sammy, this one http://www.anandtech.com/show/11145/asus-designo-curve-mx34vq-due-soon.
Pretty much exactly the same, the border / features change a little bit.

Yeah, I saw this one. But as you say, same panel. From what I've seen there is nothing on the horizon I have seen that offers anything different. Presume this is at least 6 months, perhaps more? Surely anything promising would have been shown at CES. I can't seem to find anything interesting hinted at online...

It looks good on paper and a lot of reviewers sure like them but i usually find that what reviewers find acceptable i surely dont. Ive already owned one of samsung's newer VA panels, although only a 1080p 16:9 screen and not the latest series either, and it was horrible beyond belief which makes me very cautious about their new ones. Best thing would be a live demo. What i would be worried about is black trailing and overshoot issues.

I too am dubious about VA panels. As too am I of the 1 year warranty offered by Samsung - pretty low when compared to other brands on the market. 34" 21:9 is definitely the sweet spot in terms of resolution at this point in time, it's just a shame that we have to put up with the trade-offs - especially at these price points. But perhaps there always will be!

I'm happy to wait, just seems a bit pointless if there is nothing on the horizon!

Afternoon all,

Is there agreement that the Samsung C791 is the best bet in relation to a 34" 21:9 monitor currently available? I've read lots of reviews and they tend to be pretty favourable bar the couple of documented issues.

I've also been searching online to see if there is anything coming out in the near future that might keep me hanging on. Has anyone seen / heard of anything? I'm just mindful spending this much on a monitor with all the new tech coming out - be it Freesync 2 or HDR.

There's always something to wait for, eh!

Thanks

only seen one (forum based) review and they said it had relatively high input lag :( am holding out until someone like pcmonitors or tftcentral review it.

Acer XR is still the one for me

This one? https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/UM.TX2AA.001

That's Freesync, but I have heard a G-Sync is coming also. I have an X34 at the moment, so 38" is the next logical step. I still don't know what to do about GPU though, as I'm really keen to see how VEGA performs, but the 1080Ti price has surprised me. I'd all but written that off expecting it to be an £800+ card. The decision there would obviously dictate monitor choice.

Still a rip off :p

considering all the issues with them i would agree. In a week Had 2 acer x34a and now sitting with the asus pg348q first acer out of the box blb was awefull and screen and bezel had scratchs on (i was told this was acceptable) second big horizontal band in middle of screen same with a 3rd i looked at and rejected. Both acer screens the bezel that sits at top was wonky as hell. The asus im now on slight band at top certain colours and light ficker within that band at certain colours, one would expect a lot more for there money.

Personally, imo, regardless of the issues, these LCD panels just aren't worth more than £500, at least not for anyone's who primary concern is IQ. The displays by themselves might look good for IQ/colours but put them beside any decent £500+ TV and it will look pretty poor in comparison, put them beside a similar priced TV or one for a few hundred pounds more and the TV will destroy said monitors for colours/IQ.

I've been trying to get cs:go to work without losing any hud. On the team select screen I'm missing the bottom where you select the team, score on the top doesn't show either. Anyone know a work round? BF1 is awesome in 3440x1440 tho.

Also anyone know any decent settings for the monitor (x34a)? What's everyone running for brightness etc?

I went with the x34a over the Asus in the end as I preferred the stand :-)

Also have the PG348Q since day 1 and again no problems. A little bleed but does not bother me. All the games I have play brilliantly on it.

anyone know what the warranty is like on asus screens , do they do a straight swap at door or warehouse ?

My pg348q pops / clicks slightly from speakers which im told is a hardware fault i have option of swapping or taking the z337 logitech speakers for free which is quite tempting as i would be looking to buy speakers later.

Is it easy to get old games running at 3440x1440?

Depends entirely on the game really, some old games have perfect support and some don't. For the older games, which don't have support, there are a lot of fixes now. When 21.9 first came about (4 years ago), there weren't many fixes then.

far from a rip off had mine since release zero problems and love mine well worth 1000... considering i came from a old samsung 950D 120hz

Maybe not a rip of in your eyes... but it is a rip off in my eyes :p

As you said in the GS7 thread a while back, even that screen makes your x34 look crap for colours/IQ so just imagine what LG's 2016 55"+ 4k HDR OLED TVs would look like in comparison to a basic LCD panel ;) :p :D
