24 hours of Le Mans 2014

Wowzers. Just seen the images on twitter. That is a mess. It's been up in the debris catch fence by the looks of it. Good to hear that Loic is talking.

Hopefully the tub has survived that. Given the problems they had at Silverstone with the tubs getting written off with relatively minor impacts, I suspect not.

Car was airborne and went roof first into the catch fence according to eye witnesses. Bad bad bad.

Amazed he got out of that alive - didn't think he'd have a chance when I first saw the photos.

On a lighter note, our cars are done! Give us a wave if you see us around Le Mans - we're leaving early tomorrow :)

Heard about this via Indycar driver that's been doing double duty in LMPs.

Unfortunate way to start the event. By the sound of it, Duval wasn't seriously injured.
 
Reports that Duval has a flesh wound on his leg and a cut to his neck and won't drive this weekend.

I believe that Marc Gene is the reserve driver.
 
Do they have another car ready to go? Not sure this one could be salvaged, at least nothing bigger than a bolt. Whag about scrutineering another car at this stage?
 
With the resources Audi throw at Le Mans building another car shouldn't be an issue for them in the ime available as long as they already have a spare tub manufactured
 
I love the Eurosport coverage. It feels like sitting down with a bunch nerdy sports car fans and watching the race.

The close up shots in the pits are great, the cars realy are works of art.

Oh, look the pretend fake petrol powered electric car is out...

I think its like F1 in that the video stream is centrally controlled and the same for everyone, and broadcasters then put their own commentary over it.

Sarazan refusing to get out of the car may well have ruined the splitter when they lifted it.
 
I think there has been a serious crunch and I feel the TV commentators have missed it. The debris from the in car seemed big to me or am I missing something here?
 
Yeah that's a serious shunt. The driver is OK though according to the team.

Shame they have cancelled the session, but they are being understandably cautious following the tragic events of last year.
 
**** knows who the eejit is doing the commentary but he is utterly useless and is unable to read or pronounce anything. I feel the need to knife him with a rusty blade, even my wife wants to stamp on his face he is THAT annoying.

Totally agree with this, although I do think the sharkfin (or whatever that monstrosity is called) ruins the overall look of the cars.

They would be SO much nicer without it (and surely its on the wrong plane to do anything aerodynamically - ignoring the potential for cross winds)
 
The fin is there to prevent cars getting airborne when they go sideways. It's not meant to do anything really when the car is driven normally. But the cynic in me does think its also about ensuring there is a decent area for sponsors logos on cars that are now short of any real flat surfaces.
